The medbay, like always, smelled of disinfectant and terror. At least to you it smelled like terror.
You were never one for doctors, or hospitals, needles, and basically everything else that came from a place like this. This was all ironic to you since one of your closest friends was in fact a doctor. A good one at that, yet right now you hated him for taking you to this place.
All you could see was his back to you as he set something up at his desk.
"Uh...," you cleared you throat, "What's up Doc?"
He gave a small laugh at you as he turned around, his hands were clasped behind his back.
"As a doctor, you should know that I need to find out what is wrong with the people who come to the medbay."
"You were the one who dragged me here," you said slightly irritated.
"Yes. Yes I did," he retorted with a cocky smile.
"Can you sto-"
You jumped as he stuck a needle into your forearm.
"Bones! What the hell?"
He took the needle out as it now contained the red liquid that you always argued should always stay inside people bodies.
"Next time dont jump. I may hit something I dont want to hit."
"Well, next time you should warn me," you talked back.
Bones laughed. "Fine, but if I do warn you, you cant run away like you did the first time I told you."
You rolled your eyes as Bones took your blood over to a machine that sat atop a counter, which reminded you of what an old fashioned sewing machine looked like. If they still existed of course.
You leaned over, while still sitting on the operating table that you were stuck on, trying to see what he was doing.
The screen above the machine lit up and began popping up words like not present and present.
The words 'not present' lit up green so you figured they were good.
Your heart stopped when you saw a bright red word. 'Present'
"Oh hell," was all that left Bones' mouth.
"Y/N...do you know you have Contrimtia?"
You hadnt heard that word in sixteen years.
As a child, you were said to have something called Contrimtia. Its a disease located in the heart. Since you were told about it at such a young age, you didnt really understand what it was at the time.
"Contrimtia...," you muttered under your breath.
"Yes? I dont know. W-What is it?"
Bones placed his hand over his heart.
"Well...Its a...Its an illness that occurs in the human heart. Or at least humans are the only known species to get it. Contrimtia...is fatal."
His voice became deathly silent at the word fatal.
"No its not. It cant be. Im still here. I-Ive had it for basically my entire life!"
"Its going to be fine, Y/N. Just calm down."
You stood quickly from the bed and walked over to the screen.
"Are you sure its fatal? Maybe we have a cure for it now!"
Bones placed a hand on your shoulder as you stared at the name of the illness as if that would make it go away.
"Y/N..."
"I cant die now. Its too early."
