"And here you go. Just hit call when you're ready."

Bones backed away from his desk that you were sat at after he placed a tablet in front of you. It was set to video call Miss Evergreen.

"I didn't know she wanted me to call so soon, Bones."

"Well, she didn't specify when, but I figured since you're here waiting on me to attempt to help your pain, now would be a good time."

McCoy turned around out of the office to go into the main medical area as he left you alone with the tablet. She looked down at it, the big "Call" button sat near the center of the screen with the name Evergreen above it. She took a small breath before pressing the button to call.

The old lady sat in her living room, conversing with Jenny, her house AI.

"No no, Jenny. You see I remember Elvis being Blonde. I know I wasn't alive then but she I was little I read all about him in the library's logs. "

"Well, whatever you say Miss. What do I know being an AI after all."

"Thank you for admitting def-"

"Oh, Miss Evergreen, you are receiving a video call from the U.S.S. Enterprise."

"Really? Oh, well put it on the room monitor, Jenny."

"Yes, Ma'am."

The monitor across the room from where Miss Evergreen sat lit up and fizzled it for a moment before showing a picture of you.

"Oh, my word! Y/N! Is it really you I'm seeing?"

You looked at Miss Evergreen glowing from the tablet screen and smiled brightly.

"It's me! I...I can't believe I'm talking to you after all this time. I've missed you."

"Oh, I've missed you too darling. I got a message from your ships doctor mentioning you, and I couldn't believe my ears. I thought you would've forgotten about little old me."

You chuckled lightly, "I could never forget about you, Miss."

"Oh, now don't you "Miss" me. You used to always call me Lily."

Lily, you thought. Her first name and also her favorite flower. When you were little, you used to think Lilies were named after her and always wanted a flower named after you. Everyday, you would pick every weed, flower, and random plant you could find hoping that one was undiscovered so that you could name it Y/N.

You smiled and nodded after repeating her name.

"Now, Y/N. What is wrong?"

You looked at her confused.

"Wrong? Nothing. What made you think that?"

"Well I may be old, but when the first time I hear of you in years if through a doctor telling me you want to find a new home for your pet, I like to assume something isn't right."

"I..."

You paused, realizing what you have to tell her.

Bones listened from behind the door, not wanting to interrupt even though he found a painkiller for you, but also finding himself wanting to listen in. He noticed your hesitance.

You shifted in you seat as you cleared your throat.

"Lily, I...I'm not well. Not at all."

Miss Evergreen stayed silent as she took off her reading glasses that she'd had on before the call.

"And I need to give, Pandora away because," you began to tear up as you looked away from the tablet.

"You might not make it," Lily finished for you.

You stayed silent for a moment before continuing.

"My heart. Its dying and I can't do anything about it." Your voice began to choke up.

Bones turned twords the door and reached for the handle but stopped just as he grabbed it.

"I'm scared, Miss. I'm so scared."

Bones placed his forehead on the door as he continued to listen. Sad at hearing your broken voice.

Miss Evergreen clasped her hands in her lap and looked down.

"I'll take good care of Pandora, Y/N. With every inch of my old boney self."

She smiled at you, and you forced one back through your years.

"Y/N."

You looked up at her calling.

"I need you to fight. You're too smart, beautiful, and talented to give up. If I can make it this far, so can you. I'm sure of it, darling."

You wiped tears from your face as he smiled.

"I will, Lily. I will."

The call ended shortly after, leaving you and Lily feeling at peace seeing each other again, though your illness left a mark as well.

"Ma'am. You show is about to start. Would you like me to switch the monitor?"

"No thank you, Jenny. I'll catch the episode tomorrow. You can turn off early tonight."

The AIs cameras went dimmer that normal.

"Alright, Miss. Have a good night."

The cameras turned fully off as Lily began to walk to her room. After reaching the bed, she sat in her old rocking chair and her eyes began to tear up.

"Y/N? Are you finished your call yet?" Bones asked as he quietly knocked.

"Oh! Yeah, come in Bones."

You wiped the rest of the tears trying to cover your sadness though your eyes were still red. Bones noticed had gave you a sad smile as he walked in.

"Hey, girlie. I found this that will help the pain. I suggest two a day instead of one since you're kind of an exception to the suggestion of one a day. Plus I'm a doctor so you should listen to me too I suppose."

You laughed at his comment as you took the bottle of pain killers.

"Thanks, Bones. I hope it works," you said as you stood from the desk.

"I hope so too." He watched you stand as he did too.

"Well, Doc, I'll be heading to my quarters now. But...thank you for letting me speak to her again. It means a lot seeing her again even if only through video call."

You walked past him as he reached out to grab you, butnhe quickly stopped himself.

He coughed, "Yeah, of course. Good night, Y/N."

You exited his room as he frowned.

"Don't fall for a girl who you can't keep..."
