You sat in Bones' desk chair. He had explained to you briefly this your visit was going to be quick and simple assuming everything went as planned.
His office was a small room, not requiring much room due to the fact most of his work was done in the actual medical room next to his office. All the walls were glass besides the back wall in which his desk was tightly pushed up against. This allowed you to just barely squeeze into the chair that was so obviously rarely used. The desk had a large drawer with nothing but a few unused pens, and a tablet.
through the front glass wall, you could see the doctor preoccupied in searching for something in a cabinet. You assumed it was something for the patient he was finishing up with before you even got into the facility.
Around him were a few nurses wandering around doing random tasks for their own patients. Giving shots, writing down symptoms, entering information into the computers log for the medical staff.
You fiddled with your hands as you sat quietly in the overly lit room. You started to pick underneath your fingernails, completely distracted from the world around you.
At some point you stopped just to sit there, looking into the dark wood of the desk with a blank expression.
"Y/N?"
You snap back to reality, and look up to see the doctor in the doorway.
"I'm sorry that it took longer to get to you. If I'd known I wouldn't have called you down so early."
You smiled warmly whilst trying to figure out how long you'd been there.
"Its fine, Bones. I wasnt doing much anyway."
"I wish I could say the same about me, but no. I just had to deal with a man who swore he was dying of an allergic reaction to some Klingon dessert. Little did he know that the food was suppose to inflict pain on the consumer. Crazy Klingons."
You laughed at this story and his crazy description.
He smiled as you laughed, but quickly cleared his throat as he walked towards you.
"Anyway, I have something for you. Hold out your wrist please."
You did as you were told, and Bones attached a big watch device. It was black in color and was uncomfortable to say the least.
"...Thanks...I love it?"
He laughed at your reaction.
"I know its not the prettiest thing in the world for a lady, but itll help me keep you healthy. Whenever you stability changes in anyway, itll alert me through this."
He held up a small receiver that looked almost like a communicator.
You nodded, understanding finally why this was placed on your wrist.
"That seems helpful," you replied.
"Very. Anyways, you are free to leave now, I need to start helping more patients anyway. Its still early, so I assume you can go back to help Scotty with whatever he needs."
You nodded again as you stood up, but stopped suddenly as you remembered.
"Wait, I have something for you."
You reached into your pocket as Bones turned back around to look at you once more.
You pulled out the notebook that he had given you to write in. It now had a few wishes of yours as he asked. You placed the notebook on his desk, making sure he knew what it was.
He smiled, but you noticed it was empty and forced.
You placed a hand on his shoulder once before you walked past him out the door, beginning to leave the Medbay, and leaving him in his office to stare at the notebook.
