Jordan and i wandered through the mall on the hunt for a dress for the ball. He was here to give me advice because I'd never been to an event anything like this. Excitement bubbled inside me. I could barely wait.
We have now been in 4 stores and nothing has caught my eye much less looked right on me. Im not sure what it is that I'm envisioning but i told me self i will know it when i see it. Theres only 2 stores left to go to and they are both very pricy.
Even though my aunt gave me money when i moved, she gave me her credit card to go shopping. She said to spend as much as I possibly could even though i protested. I was now realizing that id have to spend way more than a couple hundred dollars to get the dress of my dreams.
Before venturing to anymore stores Jordan and I decided to head to the food court. I barely got to a table before i was shoveling pizza in my face at warp speed. Jordan sat down beside me with a plate of Japanese food. I cringed at his choice of food. Out of all the cuisines that by far had to be my least favorite.
My phone began to ring and Jordan shook his head. "Really Kenz? You still use the factory ring tone?"
I rolled my eyes and pulled my phone out of my pocket. Cole's name flashed on the screen. My cheeks immediately turned bright red and Jordan started 'oooo'ing.
"Ooo it's lover boyyy." He drawled out.
"Fuck off Jordan." I hit answer and said hello.
"What you up to?" Came Cole's rough voice. It was nice to hear his voice but i had to turn away from Jordan who was still making faces and noises. I didn't want him to see me smile when i shouldn't have been.
"Oh uhm just shopping, you?" I mumbled into the phone. There was a pause on the other end.
"Oh well I don't want to bother you so I'll talk to you later?" Cole sounded nervous about something. I let it go because right now wasn't a good time to have a serious conversation with him.
"You're not bothering me Cole. What's up?" Jordan continued to make noises mocking my conversation. It was irritating me quickly so i threw the object closest to me. That object happened to be a break stick. It nailed him square in the face and i snickered. "Fuck off!" I whisper- yelled and walked to the other side of the food court.
"Well i wanted to ask you in person but I'll probably lose my nerve so uhm.... Kenzie will you do me the honors of going to winter formal with me in three weeks?" Cole spoke in a rush. I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. A guy has never actually asked me to a dance. Maybe i should have known it was coming but i was beyond flattered. Honestly i didn't even know there was a thing called a winter formal at school.
Of course I wouldn't know since i could never be involved in school activities. My smile quickly vanished thinking about how that was both Cole and my parents fault. Reminded me why i was out shopping in the first place.
"Id love to Cole, but hey i have to go. I'll talk to you later."
"Alright Kenz, ill see you when you get home." I heard the line go dead.
Little did he know this was my home. In Minnesota i didn't feel like i was home. Jordan spoke as i threw my plate away, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Well looks like a need two freaking dresses now because I'm going to the winter formal. As if it wasn't hard enough to find one dress." I grumbled and stormed towards the next store with Jordan running after me. He never said anything and just followed me.
"You know i was thinking about bleaching my hair entirely blonde so that way he doesn't recognize me even with a mask on at the ball."
"That's actually a really good idea. Are you planning to dye it back to your natural color afterwards?"
