COLE'S POV
"It's clear you don't believe me, so maybe this will convince you of everything I've told you about her."
"Doubtful." My father lead me down to the basement that had a long line of closed doors in the hallway. The basement smelled of blood and rusty metal.
"Before you go inside and freak out just watch and listen. If what you see doesn't convince you, than you are both free to go home."
"What did you do!?" My tone was lethal. He promised not to harm her as long as i came here willingly.
"Watch your tone boy. Just watch and than decide. Keep in mind she can't see or hear you so don't bother trying anything." He opened the door and we stood inside a small viewing room. On the other side of the one way glass was a large interrogation room. In the middle of the room Kenzie was chained to a steel chair. She was leaning forward with her hair covering her face. Blood dripped down her arms onto the floor by her feet. My blood boiled seeing her in her current state.
"You promised not to touch her!" I was borderline screaming. As usual my father gave me a cold calculated look and smirked.
"Technically I didn't, but i knew you would need more convincing." Looking back at her, my heart ached because there was nothing i could do to help her. I was highly outnumbered and if i tried anything, they would probably just kill her. My father stuck his head out the door and said something to someone standing outside. Moments later that person was in the room with her.
"You ready to talk bitch?" He sneered at her. I struggled to keep my mouth closed but all i could do was watch. She didn't even acknowledge him when he spoke. He grabbed a handful of her hair and wrenched her head back. Surprisingly she barely flinched but judging by her bloody and swollen face, her hair being pulled was the least of her pain.
"Your ears stop working?" He snickered. "I suggest you respond to me when i talk to you." He was inches away from her neutral face and she wasn't even phased. I knew she had a good poker face but this is a whole new level. How can someone pretend not to care or not even show pain.
"I heard you but you know my answer." Kenzie smashed her forehead into his nose and he immediately released her to grab his now bloody nose. Now it was my turn to smirk. The guy started cursing at her and she looked unimpressed. He stood about 6'2" with piercing blue eyes. Moments later he gave her a nasty right hook to the jaw causing blood to pour out of her mouth.
When she turned her head back towards him she smiled cruelly with a mouth full of bloody teeth. "You punch like a girl."
How is she not phased and still conscious? I didn't want to believe anything my father said but there's no other explanation for it.
"You dumb bitch you could make your life a lot easier if you just told me what you know." Once again he grabbed a first full of hair and leaned in her face. This time he made sure not to get to close.
"Asshole." She spit a mouth full of blood in his face and sneered. I could see his patience had worn thin and he was going to snap. He landed multiple harsh blows to her ribs and she clenched her jaw to keep from yelling in agony.
"Enough for now Troy." My father spoke over the intercom causing Troy to storm out of the room in fury with a face full of blood. Last time i checked the interrogator wasn't suppose to get injured.
"So son, do you believe me now?" I wanted to wipe the told you so look right off his smug face. Every fiber in my body told me not to believe him but the evidence couldn't be denied either. My heart broke watching the love of my life being beaten but how could she withstand that kind of beating without training or experience?
"I don't know." My voice was quiet as i was lost in my own thoughts and emotions. The other day i promised her id protect her and i failed. Now i have the chance to rescue her and I don't know if i should.
"Maybe if you talk to her she will be honest about what she knows. There's no point in her lying anymore." He gestured to her as she slumped over in the chair.
For a moment I contemplated letting her see me. I wasn't sure if i wanted the truth or not. Believing that she was innocent and loved me was so much easier than this harsh reality. Nodding my head, i headed into the interrogation room. Not once did she look up and acknowledge someone being in the room with her. Kneeling in front of her, I gently grabbed her chin so she would look at me.
"Cole." Her eyes swarmed in misery and fear as tears pooled in her eyes. My heart broke in two looking at her in this state. Even beaten and bloody she's still the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. All i could do was look at her and wait to see something other than the Kenzie i loved in her eyes.
"How'd you know i was here?" Hope of freedom flickered in her eyes, but I couldn't bring my self to un chain her yet.
"My father brought me here to get the truth out of you." I tried to keep a blank face but i knew I wasn't doing a very good job.
"The truth? You know as much as i do Cole. Clearly he told you something because you aren't even bothering to help free me from this hell." Her voice was broken but anger was seeping in. Her eyes slowly grew cold realizing that i was conflicted. For a moment i remembered what she said to me at my Halloween party, 'all is fair in love and war'.
It finally dawned in me, she has known all along. I've been a pawn in her game. Every moment we've had together has been a lie and I've been to busy being a love sick idiot to see it. Stepping away from her i could hardly believe how stupid and blind i was.
"Every moment has been a lie hasn't it? You never even cared, did you?" I felt like I couldn't breath. In a short amount of time i fell head over heels like a lost puppy and now she's ripping my heart out like it meant nothing to her.
"You never even saw it coming."
