It was Christmas on Earth. A celebration that for the past couple years have had destruction and devastation across the world. Every night, since the beginning of December, I would have this nightmare, I only shortly remembered it. Someone laughing maniacally in my head. But it made me think, because...
It was said that in the final days of Planet Earth, everyone had bad dreams.
But humanity must've forgot, because no one seemed worried or scared of what was to come. They acted like there was nothing wrong. Like everything was fine with the world.
"Oh, new face again. Whoa, I'm British! Never been British before!"
The previous time I regenerated, after being a Canadian, I went to England. That's where all the danger seemed to be. It was true. But now, now it was the whole world at stake.
I had gotten a job, just the normal job in a corner store. Not to hide, I wasn't trying to hide, I was trying to live. As an alien on Earth.
I was a Time Lady, female version of Time Lord, acting as a human. All the knowledge of a Time Lord, the languages, the information, the history was in my head. My father sent me into the universe to keep me safe, before the last days of the War. After landing in the Shadow Proclamation I ended up on Earth when I was about... 346 years old, and grew up.
I had landed in the 1500's, and now it was the 21st century. So right now that makes me 865 years old, around there. But I looked like I was 24. I was on my 9th regeneration, mainly to keep myself secret. Yet there seemed to be a part of me that was empty, missing.
When I had enough money from working I got my first computer, that's when I started to discover I wasn't the only one to survive the Time War. There was this man called the Doctor who was spotted all throughout history, flying around in his
"Blue box," I mumbled, staring at the old fashioned police box I saw, just sitting in the street.
I shook my head and kept walking, unlocking the shop. The blue box slipped out of my mind while I worked, happily serving customers as they entered and exited.
"Do you see that? The face?" The customer who I was ringing up things for asks.
"What? What face?" I ask, looking up from the items I was scanning.
"It's awful. He's laughing, he won't, stop"
His face started shaking, going so fast it was blurry. I couldn't make out the details of his face, not until it stopped shaking. Around the store every other head was doing the same thing. Once it stopped every face and head was replaced by the one of the man I saw laughing in my dreams.
I turned on the tv and there his face was on the news. "Breaking News, I'm everyone. And everyone in the world, is me!"
"Who are you?" I whisper.
"I'm the Master," each of the customers said together with a giant smile on their faces.
I ran out of the store and only saw that one face with blue eyes and died blonde hair. Everywhere. The human race was no more. It was now, technically, the Master race.
But I could sense bigger danger arriving.
I sprinted down the streets, trying to get away from all the Masters, but I was blocked off. The road I was running down was barricaded by men in armour. Each of them with the Master's face and devious smile.
"Why didn't she change?" One of them asks another.
"There's something about her"
"Should we bring her to the Master?"
"I'll do it"
"No, I can handle it. I'm the general!"
As they fought over who would bring me to the Master I turned and tried to run but there were more, dressed in normal human clothing, waiting. The 'general' grabbed onto my arm and tossed me in the back of a van.
When we got to the Naismith mansion they brought me to an office where the man himself was, in a baggy black sweater and jeans. There was an old man tied to a chair and the Doctor was there, tied to another chair with a strap around his mouth. He wore a brown suit with dirty converse on his feet, his brown hair messy on his head.
"Looks like we have another guest," the Master said.
I could see the Doctor looking at me from the corner of his eyes, trying to figure out who I was, but I was a mystery to him, just like I was to the Master and everyone else on this planet.
The guards left, not caring to tie me up because "I'm no threat" as they put it.
"I was sort of hoping the guest would be my old friend, the Witness. You remember her Doctor? The woman you loved who just walked away? She was a laugh, and such a sight. If I didn't already have a wife I probably would have asked her to marry me"
The Doctor glared at the Master, all his hatred balled up in one little look. He seemed to care about the Witness, whoever they were.
"Well, too bad, I'm not her," I say.
He shrugs. "Oh well, you get what you get"
"You know, it doesn't make sense. Why you'd make everyone you," I say, starting to wander around the room, pacing as I tried to calm my beating hearts.
"Why? Cause it's me!" He exclaimed, his arms spread out wide.
"Exactly my point," I say, looking at him from the corner of my eye. "You're the leader, the original, but all the others have the exact same mind as you. What's stopping every other version of you from wanting to seize power? Hmm? Any one of them could think, 'I can do a better job at leading than him, even though I am him' and try taking over"
"You do remind me of her. The same attitude, and looks. Why didn't you change?"
"I'm not exactly human, am I?"
"Then what are you? If you're not human you must have some disguise. Is it the zipper, you know that the Raxacoricofallapatorians use? Nah, can't be that one, you're too thin," he says, his eyes inspecting my body.
"Oh, you're too parochial to merely acknowledge what I am"
"Take her to the bedroom," he orders the guard versions of himself.
"The what?!" I exclaim, trying to get my arm out of the guard's grip.
"Don't worry, nothing's going to happen to you," the Master says, faking reassurance. "It's just to keep you out of trouble and out of my way while I deal with these two"
