Rings of Akhaten

I was walking around the market streets, where aliens from the local system were shopping around, here for the Festival of Offerings. It took place every thousand years when the rings align. I was at a stand, looking at some food, but then someone came up from behind and hugged me, lifting me off my feet.

I screamed a little and nearly attacked the person behind me, not expecting it, but I smiled when I saw the Doctor and hugged him shortly.

"Doctor!"

"Revenant, I'm so glad to see you! Wait, is it you? You've regenerated"

"Yeah, bit of an accident with my time ring. How long has it been for you? I just saw you a couple days ago, at least that's how long it's been for me"

"It's been a while for me, I fought the Daleks again, and the Angels. And I also found someone, she's very interesting"

"Well, let's meet her then, shall we? By the way, who is she? And where are the Ponds?"

He sighed when I mentioned the Ponds and I immediately knew something had happened to them. I stopped at a stand with some clothes, finding a nice grey cloak and dress. I bought them using a pearl bracelet I had been given by my aunt before she went to fight in the Time War.

Here you bought things with things that meant a lot to you, that had sentimental value. At the moment the bracelet was all I had on me, that weren't my sonic sunglasses or ring.

"They're happy now," he told me.

I cleared my throat before speaking again. "So, who's the new girl?"

"A new companion, you'll like her"

We started walking around, looking at all the different things being sold as we headed back to the Tardis. A girl ran up to us, a Human with brown hair. She smiled when she saw me.

"Revenant, this is Clara Oswald," the Doctor introduced.

"The impossible girl?" I whisper.

"The what?" She asks, tilting her head a bit but the smile not leaving her face.

I shake my head. "Sorry, I-I was thinking of something else. Nice to meet you"

The Doctor looked at me, knowing what I had said, and he was clearly wondering how I knew about her. She wandered off, looking at all the interesting things.

"So, what have you been up to?" The Doctor asks me.

"Following my own words"

"Which are?"

"Do something instead of killing time. Because time is killing you"

He nods and opens the door of the Tardis. "After you"

"Do you have time? I thought you were going to the ceremony, it starts soon"

"I can wait a bit"

I nod and go inside. He followed and closed the door, following me to the console. My eyes widened at the different looking Tardis.

"What happened? Why is everything so silver? Did you upgrade her?"

"You like her?"

"It's a nice change. I like it"

The Doctor looked at the time on a screen then rushed back over to me. He quickly pecked my lips and smiled.

"Sorry, but you were right. I should find Clara and get to the ceremony"

I giggle. "I'm going to change, don't wait up for me. This isn't my first time being at the festival"

He rushed out and I went back to one of the rooms, changing into the clothes I had bought. Then I left, wandering around the market a little more. It was less crowded since the ceremony was currently ongoing.

I could hear faint singing from the ceremony, it was the lullaby for the Old God of Akhaten. But then it stopped and the ground started rumbling.

The Doctor passed by me, grabbing my hand to drag me to another one of the stands. The Doctor, Clara and I all climbed onto the space bike Clara bought with her Mom's ring.

We flew towards someone, a young girl, who was being dragged towards the pyramid by some glowing force. I stood up on the back, holding onto Clara's shoulder for support, but just barely missed the girl's hand. We approached the pyramid rather quickly and nearly crashed.

"Brakes. Brakes!" Clara screamed.

We landed, the both of them breathing heavily. Clara was clutching to the Doctor for her life. I jumped off, perfectly fine, and hurried to the door.

"What is it?" The Doctor asks me as I inspected the door.

"Frequency modulated acoustic lock," I say.

"Interesting," he turned to Clara to explain. "The key changes ten million, zillion, squillion times a second"

"Can you open it?" She asks.

"Technically, no. In reality, also no. But still, let's give it a stab"

He ran at the door, running into it, then started searching for a way in with his screwdriver. He had to hold it open with the screwdriver, struggling.

"Hello, there, I'm the Doctor, this is the Revenant. You've met Clara. She was supposed to be having a nice day out," the screwdriver stopped for a second, nearly dropping the door on us, but the Doctor kept it up. "Still, it's early yet. Are you coming, then? Did I mention that the door is immensely heavy?"

"Leave. You'll wake him," the girl called Merry says.

"Really, quite extraordinarily heavy," he fell to his knee, struggling. "Clara?"

She went in to get the girl and I knelt beside the Doctor, helping him keep the door open for as long as we could. Merry used some sort of telekinesis to pin Clara to the glass case holding the Old God.

"He doesn't want you. He wants me. If you don't leave, he'll eat you all up too," Merry said.

"Yes, and you don't want that, do you?" The Doctor asks. "You want us to walk out of this really quite astonishingly heavy door and never come back"

"Yes"

"I see. Right. Clara's right. Absolutely never gonna happen"

The Doctor shoved me out while he rolled into the room before the door closed. I hit the door then tried to open it again.

"Doctor!"

"It might get dangerous, it's always best to have someone on the outside, right?"

"You stupid man"
