The Promise

"I've thought about it and after almost dying thanks to Chen-7 I've decided to open the watch. We'll finally figure out if I'm who you think I am"

"I'll leave you to it, then. You know where to find me if you need me"

"Wait," I grabbed onto his arm. "Promise me that when I remember you won't treat me any differently. Even if I do turn out to be the woman you love, I won't be her completely"

He nodded seriously. "I promise"

He left the room, closing the door behind him. I stared down at the watch for a minute, making sure I was ready to do this.

When I opened the watch I waited, and everything came back to me at once. All my memories, feelings and emotions. I remembered what it was like to love the Doctor, but it felt exactly the same way I had felt about the Doctor before I had regained the Witness' memories.

I hurried out to the console room. Amy and Rory weren't there, probably sleeping. I ran to the Doctor, hugging him.

"Doctor! I understand now"

"What?" He asked as I let go of him.

"The Revenant is the Witness. I was-am the Witness. My memories were separated, messed up when I left home. Before I ended up in the alternate reality I was at the Shadow Proclamation, but afterwards my memory was put into a fob watch. However, when I regained my memories I only regained the memories I had as the Witness"

"The Witness became her own person, instead of just being a nickname"

"Yes. So when the Witness' memory was erased I regained the Revenant's memory. It wasn't until you found this watch, freeing my entire memory, that I remember everything fully. None of my memory is missing, it's all whole. Everything makes sense, Doctor"

"That means... I fell in love with you all over again"

"You... what?"

"I fell in love with the Revenant, but you turned out to be the woman I loved before, so I fell in love with the Witness all over again"

"I love you, too, Doctor"

He put a hand on my cheek and pulled my face closer to his. He lifted me up so I was sitting on the console, him leaning against it between my legs. We kissed, but the wonderful moment only lasted a couple of seconds because we arrived at our destination.

"Ponds, we landed!" The Doctor yelled for the married couple.

We had ended up in a hotel, the Tardis landing in front of a staircase with red carpet. The Doctor hurried out with a wondrous look on his face, Amy and Rory following behind him up the stairs a couple steps.

"Let's go to Ravensgala, he says," Amy says. "The people are 600 feet tall. You have to talk to them in hot air balloons and the tourist information centre is one of their hats, he says. I'm sorry, but I don't see any huge hats"

"Amy, Beakie, this could be it," The Doctor said to them. "The most exciting thing I have ever seen"

"You're kidding," Rory scoffs.

"How can you be excited about a rubbish hotel on a rubbish bit of Earth?" Amy asks.

"Because, assembled Ponds, this is not Earth," he tells them. "This has just been made to look like Earth. The craftsmanship involved! Can you imagine?"

"Then where are we?"

"I don't know. Revenant?"

I shrug. "It's too strange"

They came back down the stairs to the floor the Tardis landed on. The Ponds went over to look at the walls which had pictures lined up from top to bottom.

"Something must have yanked us off course. Look at the detail on that cheese plant!"

"Right, but who would mock up an Earth hotel?" Rory asks.

"Colonists, maybe, recreating a bit of home. Like when ex-pats open English pubs in Majorca," he took a bite of the apple he found and kept talking. "No, whoever did this, I'm shaking his/her hand/tentacle"

"Have you seen these? Look at the labels underneath. Commander Halke, defeat. Tim Heath, having his photo taken. Lady Silvertear, Daleks"

"Reg Barnes, other people's socks," Amy read. "Tim Nelson, balloons. Novice Prin, savre-wolves. Royston Luke Gold, Plymouth. Lucy Hayward, that brutal gorilla. Doctor, what does it mean?"

"People's worst fears?" I suggest, looking at the Doctor.

"I don't know. Let's find out"

He rang the bell at the front desk and three scared looking people popped out from around the corner, items in their hands as weapons.

"No, it's okay, we're nice," Rory said.

But the Doctor pointed at the lady in nurse scrubs. "She's threatening me with a chair leg!"

"Who are you?" The lady asked.

"Oh god, we're back in reception," the guy said.

"I've never been threatened with a chair leg before! No, hang on, I tell a lie," The Doctor tells us.

"Everyone shut up!" I yell. "Who are you?"

"Their pupils are dilated which means they're just as surprised as we are. Besides which, if it's a trick, it'll tell us something," the lady told her friends, then she looked at me. "I'm Rita"

"Oh, you're good. Oh, she's good. Amy, with regret, you're fired," The Doctor says.

"It doesn't sound like there's much regret in that statement," I say with a chuckle.

"What?" Amy asked.

"I'm kidding. I take it from the pathological compulsion to surrender, you're from Tivoli?" The Doctor asked the third person, the only non human of their group, standing there.

"Yes, the most invaded planet in the galaxy. Our anthem is called Glory to 'insert name here'," The one from Tivoli said.

"You with the face, Howie. You said you were surprised to be back in reception"

"The walls move. Everything changes," Howie says, fixing his glasses.

"You, clever one, what's he talking about?"

"The corridors twist and stretch. Rooms vanish and pop up somewhere else. It's like the hotel's alive," Rita says.

"Yeah, and it's huge, with like no way out," Howie adds.

"Have you tried the front door?" Rory asks.

"No, in two days it never occurred to us to try the front door. Thank God you're here," Rita responds sarcastically.

Amy laughed and then the Doctor opened the doors, a brick wall behind it. "They're not doors, they're walls. Walls that look like doors. Doorwalls if you like, or dwalls. Walls, even, though you probably got it when you said they're not doors-"

"Doctor, that's enough about the walls," I tell him.

"It's not just that. The rooms have... things in them," Rita says.

"Things? Hello! What kind of things?" The Doctor asks excitedly. "Interesting things? I love things, ask anyone"

"Bad dreams"
