The Name of the Doctor

The Doctor handed me an old looking letter. "I found this in the Tardis, it's addressed to you and it says to read it when alone"

"Well then, you go check on Clara"

When I was in my room, after locking the door, I opened and read the letter. It was from Madame Vastra, a Silurian, saying they were having a conference call and I was needed. Inside the envelope was a candle which would put me into a dream like trance and allow me to talk with the others in the call.

I fell asleep on the bed but woke up sitting around a table. There were 5 others sitting as well. Clara, drinking a cup of tea, River, with a wine glass in her hand, Madame Vastra, Jenny, and Strax, a Sontaran.

"I'm sorry it took me so long to arrive, I'm currently with the Doctor and it isn't easy to get away from him. I burned the letter and locked the door so he wouldn't stick his nose where it doesn't belong"

"Of course," a face made of dust appeared in the middle of the table, floating above it. "Clarence DeMarco, murderer. Under sentence of death. He offered us this in exchange for his life"

She changed the image of the man's face into space time coordinates written in Gallifreyan.

"Space time coordinates?" River asks.

"This, Mr. DeMarco claims, is the location of the Doctor's greatest secret"

"Which is?" Clara asks.

"We don't know," Jenny says. "It's a secret"

"The Doctor does not discuss his secrets with anyone, my dear. The only known being to ever hear a secret from the Doctor is the Revenant," Vastra says to Clara. "If you're still entertaining the idea that you are an exception to this rule, ask yourself one question. What is his name?"

"I think I may be the only one who knows it," I say, looking around at the others. "Do any of you?" River and the others shook their heads.

"What? You know his name?" Clara asks me. "He told you?"

"Well, he's my husband. He told me when we got married, before time started to move again"

"So, what else did this DeMarco tell you?" River asks Vastra. "He didn't just buy his life with some coordinates. How did he prove their value?"

"One word only," she answers.

"What word?"

"A word I've heard in connection with the Doctor before. Trenzalore"

"How exactly did he describe what he was giving you?"

She made his face appear again and it spoke. "The Doctor has a secret, you know. He has one he will take to the grave. And it is discovered"

"You misunderstood," River says.

Before River could continue explaining Jenny started to explain how she left the door unlocked by accident, and then that she had been murdered. She vanished.

River slapped Vastra to wake her up and splashed Strax in the face with her wine to wake him up. Eyeless creatures stepped out of the walls, surrounding the table and us.

"Tell the Doctor," The eyeless creatures said.

"Tell him what?" Clara asks.

"His friends are lost forevermore," the face said. "Unless he goes to Trenzalore"

"No, you can't say that," River says.

"He can't go there," I say. "He can never go to Trenzalore!"

Clara disappeared, waking up.

"You're dead, aren't you?" I ask River, ignoring the creatures that stood motionless, mouths open showing fangs. "That's why I haven't seen you since"

"I'm afraid so. You guessed from the wine, didn't you? Anyways, it's time for you to wake up as well"

I woke up, still in the bed. I unlit the candle and quietly walked down the hall of the Tardis. I could hear Clara and the Doctor talking.

"How can you have a grave?" Clara asked the Doctor.

"We all do, somewhere out there in the future, waiting for us. The trouble with time travel, you can actually end up visiting it"

"But you're not going to. You just said. It's the one place you must never go"

"I have to save Vastra and Strax. Jenny, too, if it's still possible. They cared for me during the dark times. Never questioned me, never judged me, they were just... kind. I owe them, I have a duty," he said seriously.

I walked over to them and put a hand on the Doctor's. "I'd do the same thing if I found you or anyone in that situation"

"No point in telling you this is too dangerous?" He looks at Clara.

"None at all. How can we save them?"

"Apparently, by breaking into my own tomb"

The Tardis wouldn't let us go, it wouldn't let the Doctor cross his own timeline. She was fighting it, shaking and blowing up, but the Doctor kept us moving.

We didn't land because the Tardis shut down, but we were close. We looked out front the doorway at the planet below.

"So that's where I end up. Always thought, maybe I'd retire. Take up watercolours or beekeeping or buy a house and have a family. or something. Apparently not"

"So, how do we get down there, jump?"

"Don't be silly. We fall," we went back in the Tardis, closing the doors. "She's turned off practically everything except the antigravs. Guess what I'm turning off"

We fell towards the planet, crashing. I stepped out first, looking around at the graveyard. We started walking around, stopping when we saw a giant version of the Tardis sitting on a hill.

"Hell of a monument," Clara says.

"It's the Tardis," The Doctor says.

"I can see that"

"No. When a Tardis is dying, sometimes the dimension dams start breaking down. They used to call it a size leak. All the bigger on the inside starts leaking to the outside. It grows. When I say that's the Tardis, I don't mean it looks like the Tardis, I mean it actually is the Tardis. My Tardis from the future. What else would they bury me in?"

We started walking but Clara remained where she was, like she were talking to someone. She was facing River's grave. The Doctor knelt in front of it.

"Her grave can't be here," he said.

"Doctor!" Clara shouted.

We both looked where she was looking and found more of the creatures from before walking towards us.

"This man must fall, as all men must," they were whispering. "The fate of all is always dust"

"What do you think that gravestone really is?" Clara asks.

"The gravestone?"

"Maybe it's a false grave"

"Yeah, maybe"

"Maybe it's a secret entrance to the tomb!"

"Yes, of course, makes sense. They'd never bury River out here"

The Doctor aimed his screwdriver at the tombstone and him and Clara fell through a hole. I heard one final thing before stepping in and falling down with them.

"The man who lies will lie no more when this man lies at Trenzalore"
