You need peace and quiet after being dumped from a 2 year relationship but you decided to come to a nearby fair that was starting to dial down. I mean if it closed at 11:30pm and it was 11pm right now you'd expect it to be quieter. You needed to forget him but everything reminded you of him.
"Miss?" You snap out of your thoughts and find yourself standing outside a ticket booth.
"Um ... Just one please," you pat your back pocket and take out your phone but find no cash or even your credit card. You trail back and figure out you'd left the house with nothing. You sigh with frustration and run your fingers through your hair.
"Um... actually don't worry about it."
"I'll pay for both."
An arm extends over you and a 20 bill is placed on the counter and in return the lady gives you 2 tickets. You follow up the arm and see someone's face over your shoulder. You step back from the unexpected space.
"Um... you don't have to—"
He grabs hold of your wrist and pulls you towards the paddle boats handing the man your tickets. You stand over a blue duck shaped one and you turn back coming face to face with him, "um... listen—"
"We can talk after and there's no need to pay me back," He says, his dark curls overshadowing his eyes that were mysteriously hot.
With his help you are able to enter the boat safely and together you begin to paddle across the river.
"Did you want to talk about why you look so depressed?"
"No not really."
"It's up to you but we're probably never going to see each other again just letting you know," he says.
You sigh deeply, "I just got out of a 2 year relationship thats all," you bit your lip, looking down at your fiddling fingers before looking out the open door on your right to avoid the tears from falling.
"I'm sorry."
"It's nothing. Why'd you pay for me anyway?"
"Because this is a 2 person ride and all my friends ditched me for girls they only met and you happened to be there."
"And you didn't go with a girl you just met?" You ask, avoiding eye contact as you feel a tear roll down your cheek.
"Ironically I just got out of a relationship myself. Her name was Millie and she left me for someone named Jacob so no I did not go with a girl I just met."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's nothing. But I'm kinda glad."
"About?"
"If Millie hadn't called it off..." he stops peddling and cups your face. The sudden contact with a stranger you just met makes you stop peddling too, leaving you both stranded in the middle of the river. You turn to face him with tears streaming down your face as he wipes them away with the pad of his thumb, "I wouldn't have had the chance to meet you."
For the first time the entire night ... you smiled and it was all thanks to Finn.
