From holo broadcasts of the past Hunger Games, Rey had thought she’d seen the worst of ridiculous Coruscant outfits. Pans of Coruscant cities cheering and rallying at the parades would always give way for Jakku natives to observe ridiculously dramatic attire.

Seeing as holos weren’t in color, however, Rey was completely unprepared for the blinding neon hues of the everyday outfits as she stepped out from the hovercraft.

People and other species were clad in neon green headdresses, orange and flowing full-length gowns, and even appeared to have tattooed their eyebrows different shades of a radiant purple. These were just the basics- some people proudly displayed unnaturally curved feet with toenails grown out into curled waves, others wore neck braces that continued a gradual push of the head to create a long figure like that of the Kaminoans.

“It’s a lot to take in.” Ciena commented, sensing the unrest of the four women as they walked their way from the hovercraft they’d flown in to the tall skyscraper their stylists dwelled in.

“And I thought Kendy’s green hair was a statement.” Berisse replied, a joking tease towards the other woman.

“Excuse me, my hair is fabulous.” Kendy smirked back, proudly flipping it so that it shimmered in the intense sunlight.

“Well, obviously. I couldn’t pull it off.” Jude chimed in.

“I couldn’t either.” Rey smiled.

“Sure, but we all know I could!” Thane said loudly, having eavesdropped upon the conversation and jumping in at the best moment.

They laughed, and even Ciena gave a small smile.

Rey smiled along with them.

“Ooo, girls!” A voice squealed, the instant the group entered the massive skyscraper of a building.

The voice speaking belonged to a short, wiry girl with reddish-brown hair and doe eyes. She was tiny in every sense of the word- Rey, at 5’ 7”, towered at least half a foot over her. The pixie-like girl’s hair was pinned up on either side of her head in matching, braided buns, with small wispies framing her face. “Marella,” She introduced herself upon their confused looks, smiling a wide, white smile.

“I’ll be a member of your prep team, and yours.” She informed Rey and Kendy, pointing first to Kendy with a perfectly manicured, red-nailed finger, and then referring to Rey.

Rey smiled uncomfortably- suddenly, she was feeling extremely nervous. Alright.” She shrugged, trying not to portray how she was feeling to anyone in the group. She looked back to her group and held up her hand for an awkward wave. Keep it together. She thought to herself.

“Take her away." Kendy said in a bored tone, waving her hand in a dismissive gesture. “Shoo! Go get styled!” She added with a laugh when Rey refused to move, her feet seemingly planted on the ground.

“And remember.” Ciena joined in, “Allow them to do what they must.” Concluding her statements, as that was all she was going to say, Ciena led the other girls and Thane to a row of plush seats in the lobby of the building. Rey wanted to plead nervously, don’t make me go. She hadn’t been nervous before, but she was practically petrified now.

What were they going to do to her? What was the expense of mainstream beauty in Coruscant? Would she be so disfigured that it’d be impossible to win the games?
