Night fall as taken over the land covering it with a thick blanket of darkness. There is no moon tonight so it makes it even darker. I have always loved nights like these, warm yet breezy and completely dark with no light from the moon. I feel safe when it's like this, like I can just disappear and no one can see me since my coat is solid black.

There's something different about tonight though, something strange. It feels like the calm before the storm, there is no sounds from the frogs, or crickets or anything. It is completely silent, completely still. The other horses all seem to notice it as well, none of mares have let their foals stray beyond 5 feet of them, if even that.

The wind started to pick up a bit, bringing an odd smell. A smoky scent with something else that smelled something like a wolf.

I gave a small whiny to the horses down below from where I was standing, letting them know of what I was smelling. They all thanked me and returned to watching over their foals or what ever they were doing.

*Unknown POV*

Walking around I noticed that no one has done what I had ordered them to do. None of the pins had been set up, the camped haven't been made, and no one has gone to get wood for the fires. What the hell do they think this is relax time!

"You lazy mutts get your asses up and do what I told you to do when we got here nearly 2 hours ago" I growled.

"But alpha we just..."

"Don't dare defy me, this is not the time to relax we need the pins ready before sundown unless you want to work through the night and get no sleep and we need wood if you want your food to be cooked"

"Yes alpha" they all said and got up to do their assigned jobs.

"You omega" I pointed to one of the omegas.

"Yes alpha"

"Why don't you go and make yourself useful and fetch me a couple of horses"

"Yes sir"

"John there you are. I just sent one of the omegas to get me a couple of horses, I want to go see the herd before we bring them in tomorrow would you like to accompany me"

"Yes of course"

The omega brought our horses and we set off. We've had a chopper fly over the island a few times to locate where the herds spend most of their time. They have located one good looking herd and I want to get a good look at all the horses to see which ones I may want to add to my collection.

When we reached the herd they were all grazing. I saw one of the foals walking away from its mother only to be called right back to her side. I wonder if they must know something is going to happen.

Scanning over the whole herd I was a lot of fit, good looking horses. One stood off away from the herd. Her coat, as black as night, shined in the sunlight. She was pretty tall to, from where I was I'm guessing her to be some where around 16 hands. And she's very well built.

The sun was starting to slump behind the mountains so we decided to head back to camp. By the time we got back the omegas had done what I asked. All the tents were pitched, the fires were started, and the pins were all up. And it smells like they have all really started to get the dinner ready.

John and I got off the horses and handed them off to one of the omegas so he could untack them. We made our way over to our tents and grabbed some of what had been made.

My mind wandered to the black mare. I though about what an asset that she would be to my collection. She could possibly win me tons for competitions, I would of course have to find her strong points and then go from there to see whether she would be English or Western. But what a beauty she would be. Or she could even be a good brood mare.
