Hawk walked through the grass, internally screaming and panicking.
Today was the day he'd meet Jay Wing at the rock tonight. He had gave Jay Wing directions and instructed he goes there every night for them to talk.
For whatever reason, he was filled with anxiety.
Starry Leap sat with him, Moon Storm having been taking care of Gwennie that night.
"He's not here yet, is he?" Starry Leap asked, but she knew the answer. Hawk nodded.
Jay Wing padded over and sat on the rock by Hawk.
"So," Starry Leap began. "What should we discuss?"
"I wish Crooked Tooth would leave me alone." Hawk sighed. "He's mad, dude. I wish he would get help for his anger problems."
Starry Leap sighed. "Something more upbeat, Hawk."
"Okay." Hawk said. "You know, Jay Wing, I have a question."
Jay Wing smiled. "What is it?"
"Have you ever been on a date.. To like, a restaurant?" Jay Wing shook his head in reply to the question.
"I haven't either, and I thought, well.." Hawk fiddled his paws.
Jay Wing smiled wide and his eyes almost started to water. "Yes, I'd love that!"
Starry Leap flew into the air to let them talk privately.
"I've never had someone care about me." Jay Wing sighed, actually crying now. "I-" He choked out a sob. "I'm sorry, I'm just overemotional, aren't I?"
Hawk pressed his nose to Jay Wing's cheek. "It's okay, I feel the same." Hawk and Jay Wing nuzzled each other for a moment, laughing.
Until Jay Wing interrupted the laughter.
"What if I ran away from home?" He said.
Hawk smiled. "I'd love that! You could live with us, I'd introduce you to everyone, I bet everybody in the den would be accepting, maybe Feather Tail could come too! Wouldn't that be nice?"
Jay Wing laughed. "Yeah!"
Suddenly a bell rang in the distance. "O-Oh. I gotta go home."
Hawk held Jay Wing's paw. "Before you go, I.."
Jay Wing tilted his head. "What?"
Hawk kissed Jay Wing's cheek. "Goodbye."
Jay Wing grinned. "Thank you!! Goodbye." He ran off towards the bushes and Hawk sat on the rock smiling for a few moments.
Starry Leap flew overhead and chanted. "Hawky is in looove, Hawky is in looove!"
Hawk smiled. "Yeah.. Yeah."
He stood up and rubbed his eyes. He was so unbelievably tired. "I'm gonna get home now, but this was fun."
Starry Leap nodded and flew back to the tree she slept in at night.
-
Hawk slowly stalked through the bushes, hearing the voices of Gwennie and Feather Tail in the distance.
"This is a lovely flower." Feather Tail said.
"We crush them up and give them to dying animals," Gwennie told her. "It kills them."
Feather Tail held her ears back. "Oh, that's.. Lovely!"
Gwennie laughed. "I'm not good at being nice, I'm sorry."
Feather Tail wrapped her long fluffy tail around Gwennie. "You're perfect just the way you are."
Hawk decided it was probably time to go.
-
Gwennie walked into the healer's den to see Ripple in one of the moss beds, laying down and not speaking.
"She's been too sick to speak." Rock said, strangely out of his normal way of speaking.
Gwennie looked at Ripple worriedly. "That sucks."
Rock nodded. "Really do."
"Today Moon Storm was real sad." Rock said suddenly.
"What? Why?" Gwennie asked.
"Starry Leap declined his offer to be his mate, and he hit her."
Gwennie sighed. "Oh."
Gwennie walked back to her bed and sat down.
Suddenly the darkness cut to an odd feeling.
The feeling of claws sinking into flesh, the feeling of a leopard's fur against her paws.
She liked it.
Suddenly she snapped awake to see her claws lodged into her head, which was bleeding a whole damn lot.
"Oh, shit.." She groaned, pulling her claws out of her bloody head.
"Holy fuck!" Sky shouted suddenly. "Are you okay?! What the hell happened?!"
Gwennie grumbled some nonsense and sat up. "I was having a nightmare."
"You're bleeding from your skull!"
Gwennie laughed. "Indeed I am. I'll go visit Ripple or whatever."
Gwennie was definitely not going to visit Ripple.
As Sky cleaned the blood off Gwennie's face, Gwennie saw Hawk and Jay Wing enter the den with Feather Tail.
Hawk called out to everyone. "I have some visitors!"
Sky smiled and stopped cleaning Gwennie. "Who?"
Hawk put his paw around Jay Wing and Gwennie cringed in disgust. "My friend Jay Wing and his cousin, Feather Tail!"
Feather Tail walked over to Gwennie. "Hello again, Gwennie! Are you okay? You look tired."
"Had a bad dream." Gwennie mumbled. "Clawed up my forehead."
Feather Tail gasped in worry. "That sounds awful! Does it sting? I have medicine in my bag-"
"I'm fine." Gwennie said, ignoring the fact her swaying tail hit Sky.
"Okay, but if you ever need help, feel free to talk with me, since, after all-" Feather Tail started, but paused for a moment.
"I'll be visiting more frequently, maybe."
Gwennie smiled and kissed Feather Tail's cheek like they usually did as a goodbye. "That's good!"
Feather Tail giggled. "Yep."
