Hawk followed Sky as they ran up the hill.
"Where are we going?" Hawk asked.
"A cave! White Feather told me about it on our walk homes yesterday." Sky gleefully said back to Hawk, running further up the hill and stopping at the top in front of a large cave.
Hawk stood at Sky's side, squinting as he tried to focus on the cave. "What's in there?"
Sky ran up towards the cave and turned towards Hawk. "White Feather told me about it! She said it hides spirits of our ancestors. I think it'd be fun to learn our history from wise ghosts."
Hawk looked unconvinced. White Feather didn't strike Hawk as the 'intelligent type' of person, but nonetheless, he followed his sister inside the odd cave.
Hawk sat down by a pile of wood in the middle of the cave and watched as Sky pulled out two sticks and scratched them against one another. "Alder Tail told me fire summons spirits." She said to nobody. Hawk nodded unenthusiastically and looked down at the woodpile as it was lit ablaze.
Sky smiled at Hawk and stared at the fire. "White Feather told me two names we should use."
"What ones?"
Sky looked at the blue parts of the flames and grinned in a manner Hawk had never seen before. "Their names are Dream Stone and Red Scar." Sky's tone of voice was very different from her normal tone but sounded more intrigued than malicious like Hawk originally thought.
But nevertheless, those two names sent chills down Hawk's spine.
They sat by the fire, held paws together and chanted the names. Dream Stone! Red Scar! Dream Stone! Red Scar!
Suddenly the fire wavered and moved around. Hawk smiled wide at the flame, hoping to actually see a ghost.
And just as Hawk imagined in his mind, two ghosts swirled out of the fire and looked down at them.
"Woah.." Sky murmured as the two stared down at her.
The red leopard ghost was the first to speak up. "Why were we summoned? Who are these people?"
The gray leopard laughed, making the weirdest motion Hawk had ever seen come from someone. Her shoulders moved up and down and her head bobbed, causing her shiny golden tiara atop her head to bounce.
"Red Scar, these our our descendants!" The gray leopard said in a tone so calm and.. Off, for Hawk. The word he thought of was "seductive." Moon Storm had said it once when describing White Feather, but he wasn't sure what it meant aside from the context Moon Storm used it in.
"Ah, well," Red Scar said in his gross accent that Hawk didn't want to listen to. "I'm Red Scar, this is my now ex-wife, Dream Stone." Upon hearing these words, Dream Stone scoffed.
"And I'm Dream Stone, former ruler of Brialith, a remote part of Jamaa I had all to myself.. Until my horrid awful sister, Jade, stepped in, of course."
Hawk looked up at Dream Stone. Jade? He thought to himself. That's the name of the snow leopard alpha! We couldn't possibly be related to her.. Could we?
"Could you give us more context?" Sky asked Dream Stone, who replied by pushing Red Scar to the side and grinning wide. "Of COURSE!"
Dream Stone began pacing around the cave and dragging her paws across the walls every now and then as she told her story.
"I was born in a family of royalty, with my sister, Jade. I always envied Jade, however. While I was a fairly natural color, dark gray fur, black spots, eyes as brown as a fine hazelnut, she was special, and different. She was prettier than I was, shiny cream and lilac fur, dark purple spots, sapphire blue eyes that spoke nothing but kindness and caring. I hated Jade. I wanted her to die."
