Hawk sat by the lake again, the cold having toned down since summer was soon to come.
He looked down into the water, hoping to see something interesting.
He saw himself with Jay Wing once more, and smiled. He truly loved Jay Wing.
He closed his eyes for a long moment, opening them again to see him.. With his head cut off and blood pouring down his neck.
"Agh!" He shouted in surprise, falling back into the snow and then shaking his fur.
He slowly approached the lake again and looked back in. He held a silver kit in his mouth by her scruff, and both were smiling.
Was that his child?
He couldn't believe it. A child! Life couldn't be so bad after all!
He had to tell Jay Wing! Maybe even about the beheaded thing...
As he walked through the snow to the rock Jay Wing and he met at, he tried to think of a song for Jay Wing. Maybe he could impress him with a song!
Hawk stopped at the rock, muttering the words "I want to die but because of you I'll think twice." to the tune of his cheesy little song.
"Jay Wing?" He called out.
It was raining. Maybe Jay Wing didn't want to meet with him tonight.
"JAY WING!" He shouted once more.
Hawk worriedly walked through the rain. "Someone is watching me." He hissed.
He looked around, seeing nothing but rain and darkness.
For whatever reason, he sat down and looked up at the sky.
Then he heard a loud bang.
He ran towards the source of the noise, and saw a wolf cowering back in the rain.
He ran up to the animal.
"Jay Wing!" He shouted worriedly.
Jay Wing was laying on the ground now, bleeding into the wet grass.
"Leave, leave now." He said to Hawk.
"Wh- You're bleeding! What happened?!"
Jay Wing stood up and put his nose to Hawk. "Go home." He said again. "I don't want them to hurt you too."
"Th-Them?" Hawk asked.
"My parents." Jay Wing informed him.
Hawk looked down and muttered some random words.
"Why aren't you home?" He asked Jay Wing.
Jay Wing chuckled. "Got kicked out. Bit my mother's leg."
Hawk smiled at his bravery. "That's nice. But still, you're hurt, man. We gotta take you to the healers!"
Jay Wing smiled back. "How about I come live with you for a bit?"
Hawk gasped. "I thought you'd never ask! Come on!"
Jay Wing got up, but wobbled as he tried to hold up his bleeding leg.
Hawk go to Jay Wing's side. "Lean on me, it'll be alright."
Jay Wing smiled and together they walked back.
-
Hawk and Jay Wing walked inside, both smiling.
Crooked Tooth saw them and turned the other way.
"Guess who's staying with us, everyone!" Hawk called to the rest of the cave.
Jay Wing laughed. "Me!"
Hawk turned his head to see Spark Storm carrying Ripple's body on her back.
Ripple was dead. There was no sign of life in the eagle.
Hawk hushed Jay Wing up and they watched the two carry the corpse.
Hawk and Jay Wing casually slipped into the healer's den while nobody was looking.
"Hey, Rock." Hawk tried to sound kind as to not startle the poor grieving owl.
Rock flew over to them "Whats it yous need?" He asked, finally speaking normally once more.
"Jay Wing here has a few bad wounds." Hawk told him.
Rock flew over and grabbed some strange herb things Hawk didn't bother to pay attention to.
Jay Wing tried to start conversation while they sat around.
"How did Ripple die?" He asked.
Rock shook his fluffy little head. "I gots no clue. She was convulsings all day, until this afternoons when she just stopped."
Hawk looked down sadly. Ripple was a very lovely woman.
Rock held some pink and yellow flowers in his beak.
"Won't you need those flowers for medicine?" Jay Wing asked.
Rock just set the flowers down on the ground. "They kills people who eats em." He said.
Jay Wing looked confused, he'd probably never seen flowers that did that. "Oh."
Jay Wing stood up. "So, can I leave now?"
Rock turned around. "Leavin'!? You wonts be doing that anytimes soon. You got big wounds."
Jay Wing sighed. "Fine." He sat back down.
Hawk remembered what he saw in the lake, and sat by Jay Wing as soon as Rock left.
"I need to tell you about something that happened, why I really came looking for you last night." He began.
"I can see the future when I look in water." Hawk said.
Jay Wing was confused. "What? Like, your future self?"
Hawk nodded and continued. "I saw us, together. As adults. We stood by each other's sides. Then, I saw me, with my paws bloodied, and then I saw me with my sister Gwennie's corpse behind me."
Jay Wing shuddered. "I don't like Gwennie."
Hawk went on. "Then I saw me, without a head."
Jay Wing gasped. "You lost your head?!"
Hawk sighed. "I guess so. But then, the final one. I still had no head, but I was carrying a smiling cub."
"A cub..?" Jay Wing asked, smiling. "Was it ours?"
Hawk shrugged. "I have no clue, man. But it looked nothing like either of us."
A short silence hit them.
"So.. Why do you dislike Feather Tail?" Hawk asked Jay Wing.
"I'm not sure. I guess it's just cause she's treated better than me, and because I hate Gwennie. She likes Gwennie very very much."
Hawk laughed and laid down next to Jay Wing. "I also like you, very very much."
They both snickered.
