"Sky!" Hawk ran over to his sister. "I got him! His name's Jay Wing and he wants to live with us!"
Sky smiled and looked at the yellow-eyed wolf. "Hello, Jay Wing." She said, a calmer tone than what she used before Jay Wing showed up. "I'm Sky! We live in the mountains."
"I know." Jay Wing said. "Hawk told me. So, uh.. I can't join you tonight. I have to go home. But I can after school tomorrow! I will see you two at school, right?"
Hawk opened his mouth to say no but Sky shot a glare at him.
"Yes, we will." Said Hawk, looking at Sky annoyedly. "It'll be our first day of school."
Jay Wing smiled. "You'll get to meet all my friends at school! I'd love to show you guys Gwennie, Splinter, and Needle."
Hawk and Sky looked at each other. Gwennie?
"So.." Hawk began to start speaking, but then his belly growled. "O-oh. I guess we should get home now. J-Jay Wing, do you want to have dinner with us?"
Jay Wing smiled. "I do need to go home, but, I guess my parents would be fine with me not being there. Heh."
Sky hopped up onto the rocks and began jumping home. "Come on, then! I'll have Holly Scar introduce you to everyone!"
-
They got to the cave and Hawk bounded up to Crooked Tooth. "Dad! I met a new friend today and invited him to have dinner with us. Can he?"
Crooked Tooth smiled, glad that Hawk was already used to living in the caves. "Yes, he can. I'll set the tables for another guest."
Sky then looked at Jay Wing, then back at Hawk. "Why don't we show Jay Wing around?"
Hawk grinned "Yeah!"
Sky walked over to a tunnel but stopped to turn to the two. "We should let him meet Ripple, then let introduce him to everyone else at dinner time."
Sky ran down a tunnel and Hawk and Jay Wing nervously followed.
They got to a large room filled with plants and berries and other strange things of all kinds.
"Hello, kids!" Ripple was unlike other animals in the cave, she was a large gray eagle with a sharp and shiny orange beak.
"So, what brings you to the healing den?" She said to Sky, who looked at Jay Wing. "We're showing our new friend around the caves, he's thinking of living here with us!"
Ripple's beak curled into a smile. "Ah, I see. That's very lovely." She pointed her wing at a pile of plants. "I'm Ripple, the healer here. You come to me anytime you're sick or injured, okay.. What's your name?"
Jay Wing looked at the plants. "I'm Jay Wing." He said.
Suddenly, a small owl popped out of the plants and flew over. "Hi!" He said. "I'm Rock. I'm the healer apprentice and I become the main healer once Ripple dies off, right Ripple?"
Ripple smiled at Rock. "Yes indeed, young man."
Ripple then looked back at the three kids. "You should go meet White Feather and Alder Tail."
Hawk nervously looked at Sky and whispered: "Where is Alder Tail?"
Sky turned to the tunnel exit and said to Hawk and Jay Wing: "Follow me! Alder Tail and White Feather should be in the den where the kids our age are!"
Hawk and Jay Wing padded behind Sky nervously. She turned into a long tunnel and they followed.
They entered a big room full of many animals of all different sizes. Gwennie's thin figure was easy to see next to Moon Storm's large build, which intimidated Hawk greatly.
Hawk walked over to Gwennie and Moon Storm. "Hello, do you-"
Hawk was interrupted by Gwennie standing right up and clawing Hawk across the nose.
He stepped back. "Eek!" He shouted.
Sky came to Hawk's side and glared at Moon Storm as if it was him who did it.
"Come on, Hawk." She said, turning around, but still looking at Moon Storm. "Let's go meet Alder Tail and White Feather."
They walked over to a red and black leopard sitting by a white leopard lying next to him.
"Hello. I'm White Feather." The white leopard spoke. She looked at Hawk. "You're Crooked Tooth's kid, right? Say.. When were you born?" White Feather's voice was slow and dreamy.
Hawk looked confused. Why would this lady ask when he was born? "I was born on July 12th." He said to her.
"Cancer.. Hm. Says a lot about you, Hawk. So, you're 15 right?" She said. Hawk had no clue what she meant by Cancer, but he nodded when she asked if he was 15, though, he was 14.
"You're lying." White Feather said, then laughed. "But anyway, I'm White Feather. A Gemini, and I'm 20."
Hawk heard Jay Wing gasp. "You're 20?!" He said. "You look so young!"
Alder Tail, the red leopard to White Feather's side, chuckled. "Yeah. We're both 20. Looks can deceive you. Anyway, I'm Alder Tail. White Feather's brother."
Hawk looked away, he wasn't really willing to talk to these guys anymore, with their weird Cancers and ages and stuff. "Okay, great, but we gotta go now."
They both smiled creepily. "Goodbye, come back once more!" She said in unison.
Hawk whispered to Sky as they walked out. "Who the hell are those two?!"
Sky sighed. "Don't be mean to them." She whispered back.
"Kids! Dinner!" Storm called from the kitchen. The three kids excitedly rushed to the dining room and sat down at the large table.
"What are we having for dinner, Storm?" Sky said to the purple wolf, who was preparing plates inside the kitchen.
"I made us pasta to celebrate you two coming here, and finding new friends!" Storm smiled.
Hawk felt warmer, not because he was in the kitchen, but just being around Storm and knowing she cared for him made him feel happier to be there.
Hawk watched everyone else sit down at the table, and Storm came out with bowls of pasta and handed them to everyone at the table.
"Where's Ripple and Rock?" Jay Wing said, looking at everyone at the table.
"They like to catch their own food, being birds and all," Sky told him.
They all ate quietly until Crooked Tooth spoke up. "Hawk, Gwennie and White Feather will be showing you and Sky around the mountains tomorrow after school."
Hawk looked at Gwennie, who shot Hawk a cold glare, forcing Hawk to stop looking at her quietly staring down at her food.
"O-Okay," Hawk said, and turned to Sky nervously, but then went back to eating his food.
