Chapter 15 The Phone Call

"Carlisle? It's Jacob, there is something seriously wrong." I called Carlisle immediately after I tried taking Ness's temperature, I had to borrow Sam's thermometer to do it. What happened, I don't think either of us expected.

"What is it Jacob?"

"Ness is burning up, I put my hand to her forehead to check and her skin burned me. It actually BURNED ME. I went then, over to Sam's house to borrow his thermometer to check her temperature. Carlisle, she broke the thermometer. Her temperature was too hot, it broke it! DOC WHAT IS GOING ON!"

"Jacob, before I can tell you anything I need you to go to the grocery store and get something for me, I need to make sure that my suspicion is correct."

"Okay, what is it, tell me."

"I need you to buy her a pregnancy test." I froze.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"I know, I know. But Jacob I need you to just listen to me. Please go and get one, have her take it, and call me back as soon as it tells you what it says."

"You can't be SERIOUS!"

"Jacob please." I hung up the phone and stared. He had to be joking. There was no way, I mean, she couldn't be, I couldn't be,

"Jacob?" I shot my head over to look at her. She looked really concerned. "Jacob? What is it? What did he say?"

"He, wants, me, to go and buy you, a, pregnancy test." Her face, matched mine.

I got in our car and sped to the store. My mind couldn't seem to grasp what Carlisle was having me do. I went into the store and found my way over to the isle where there were tests. I grabbed a bunch of them. If we were doing this, then we are MAKING SURE THEIR RIGHT. I sped back to the house and found Ness in the same exact position I left her in. "Ness?" Her eyes didn't move, she just reached her hand up for the bag. I gave it to her, she stood up and walked into the bathroom.

This was going to be the longest minutes of my life. Okay, breathe Jacob. She couldn't be pregnant. I couldn't let this happen. I thought Carlisle said she couldn't have a baby. My mind then took a 180 degree turn. A baby! We might have a baby together. The thought brought sure bliss to my mind. It was abruptly cut off by memories. Memories of Bella being pregnant with Ness. It had literally killed her. If Edward hadn't injected his venom into her heart to turn her into a vampire. Bella wouldn't have survived. Ness, as horrible as it is, she almost killed Bella. Bella's body physically could not take being pregnant. A vampire in a human body is not good.

NO! I would not let Ness do this. I could not let her die. I could, no WOULD not let this thing kill her. I made up my mind when I heard something break inside the bathroom. I rushed over to the bathroom door. "Ness, what's going on? Are you okay." No answer. "Ness?" I opened the door to find Ness sitting on the floor, her knees were wrapped up to her chest. She was rocking slowly and sobbing into her knees. I knelt down next to her and pulled her arms around me. I held her close and rubbed her back. My heart was racing. I was afraid to ask what the test read. I looked down next to her and there it was. There was two of them.

I looked down even closer to read. One read positive, but the other one surprised me. It was negative. I didn't get it. How could she get two different readings?

"Ness, I don't understand, how did it read two different things?" She didn't take her head away from my chest. She just held up her hand, I opened her hand to find another test, I looked at it, My breathing stopped. It was positive. My eyes scanned it over and over again, there had to be a mistake.

I knew that we would eventually have to talk to each other and face the music. I picked her up and the tests and carried her to the bed. She grabbed a tissue and wiped away her tears. I stared at her in pain, I couldn't believe that I did this to her. I decided to let her cry, while I called Carlisle.

"Jacob? What did they say?" I couldn't seem to speak. But I am sure my silence, confirmed his suspicion.

"Carlisle, what do we do? She can't do this. You remember Bella, I don't think Ness will be as lucky. I CAN' T LET HER DO THIS! WE CAN'T LET HER DO THIS!"

"Jacob I know. Look, let me think this over and do some more research. If my theories are correct. This could be different, but it could also be a lot worse."

I hung up the phone and looked at Ness, she was laying on the bed staring out the window. My arms wrapped around her and pulled her close to me. "We will get through this, we can go back to Washington, and Carlisle can get this out of you."

"No." Her voice seemed angry.

"No what?"

"I will not let you destroy our baby Jake! I thought that you wanted a baby, we just talked about how much we wanted to have a baby! And now you are wanting to kill it."

"Ness, you have to understand. This is not safe for you to do. It nearly killed your mom when she was pregnant." Her faced froze. I knew that she knew she had hurt Bella, but she was not ever told the specifics about the whole thing.

"Jacob" Her voice became soft and loving. "I want you to tell me exactly what had happened while my mom was pregnant with me."

"Ness, I can't do that. I don't want to relive those painful memories."

"Please Jacob, I have to know. How badly did I hurt my mom?"

After explaining to her in detail, since she wanted nothing else, about the breaking of Bella's bones, and Bella not being able to keep anything down except blood. I told her about the night that she was born, how she had broken Bella's spine. It pained me to tell her about me telling Edward to throw Ness out the window and get rid of her. She did remember me calling her a monster when she came out. I told her about me and Edward working hard to keep Bella alive. I was pushing on her heart giving her CPR to keep her heart going, and how her dad had to inject venom into Bella's heart to save her.

Ness was stunned, she couldn't believe that it had been that bad. I then proceeded to explain to her the first time that I saw her, really saw her, in Rosalie's arms. And how I fell madly in love with her. How she had my heart from the get go. I was glad that Bella decided to keep you, other wise we wouldn't be here today.

"Then why, after all that, won't you let us keep the baby Jacob?"

"Because Ness, seeing Bella go through that nearly killed your dad. And we definitely don't know what we are dealing with here, this could be a lot worse."

Her face became hard. I could tell that she was becoming very protective of our unborn child. "How so?"

"With your parents, it was only vampire and human mixed in. Ness we have THREE species. VAMPIRE, HUMAN, AND, WEREWOLF. Who knows what that will bring."
