Chapter 17 Charlie

Jacob POV

We decided to leave in the morning, so that when we got to Washington, it would be dark. I let Ness sit on the bed to rest. She still was not feeling good. I grabbed two duffle bags and started putting clothes into them. Ness promised that she really didn't care what I packed for her. Even though I kept asking her as I held things up, if they were okay. My phone started to buzz. Ness grabbed it off the night stand and answered it. "Hey Grandpa! Guess what we are doing! We are packing to come back to Washington. We thought it would be easier to have the baby there. What? Why?" I stopped packing and listened to the conversation. "Why would they suspect Charlie? Oh, OH!" That didn't sound good. Charlie was in trouble. "HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET THAT? What do you mean they...Okay." Pause. "Okay." Pause. "Okay, love you too, bye grandpa." She shut the phone slowly and just stared at the phone with her mouth open.

"What? What did he say?"

"We are in trouble."

"What? Why?"

"Okay," She took a deep breath. "Jacob sit down, I need you to stay calm, I don't want you to freak out."

"Okay, Ness, that talk isn't helping."

"I am sorry, I really don't mean to scare you. Okay, the hunters found our marriage certificate. They know that my family knows about you guys. And now because they know that my family knows, Charlie is in trouble."

"Why is Charlie in trouble?"

"Because he is linked to Bella, Being her father. So they are interrogating him hard, he is under constant watch, and he has been put on probation from work."

"I can't believe this!"

"It gets worse."

"Worse, worse! HOW COULD THIS GET WORSE?"

"We can't go to Washington."

I couldn't speak.

"Since the entire town and I am sure many more, know that my family knows that you guys are not human. They can't leave. It is very dangerous. They have been put under watch. We can't go there, because the entire town will know that we are there."

Ness looked at my face, she looked really concerned. Her hand stroked my arm, it wasn't until she did that, that I realized I was shaking.

"Jake, please calm down."

"NESS," I tried to talk. But I couldn't seem to put a sentence together. Things were going good, and now, they have taken a turn for the worst. And worst of all. I had to do the pregnancy by MYSELF!

"Ness, I can't do this. I can't handle this pregnancy by myself."

"I know you're scared, but you won't be alone. I am here."

I smiled at her courage. She was just as scared as I was, that was obvious. "So what do we do now?" Well I think that we need to figure out what to do about the hunters. We obviously can't let time take care of it. It is only giving them more time to dig things up. I am really worried about my family, mostly Grandpa Charlie, he can't take care of himself like we all can."

Tears started to fill her eyes. I pulled her in close to my chest and rocked her gently. "Nothing is going to happen to Charlie, or your family. I promise." I needed to keep her calm. I knew that emotional Ness is not a good thing when she is pregnant. I needed to figure out what to do about this. I rocked Ness in my arms until she felt heavy. I laid her down on the bed and watched her sleep. My arm never left her waist.

Okay, now, no sleeping tonight. Need to figure out what to do. I reviewed in my head what they knew about us so far. They saw Seth transform. They know that we are definitely not human. They know that Ness and I are married now, so that leads to knowing that the Cullen's know something about us, because Ness is their daughter. This put Charlie in danger with Bella being his daughter. If Charlie was being watched, that means that they could get a warrant and search his house. This means that they would find old pictures of Bella, from when she was still human. They would definitely be able to tell that there is a extreme difference between the current Bella, and the old one.

Well it wasn't a disaster yet, but it could easily turn that way. Danger seemed to be creeping around the corner. Would we ever escape it? With the way our worlds are. Things are never normal for a while. Not since Edward, a vampire, fell in love with Bella, then a human. Since then, danger and trouble have not been far behind. Sigh. Ness shivered a little. She must be cold. I pulled her close to me, so that my heat could warm her up. What to do about us. With a baby coming. Things were starting to get crazy. I don't think I can take dealing with deadly hunters, and becoming a father. My mind drifted to the thoughts of becoming a dad. Running with our baby, feeding, every perfect bliss. Ness turned over in my arms and looked up at me.

"Jacob, are you okay? Can you not sleep?"

"I am fine. I am just thinking about what to do."

"May I help?" She sat up and kissed my neck. Her devilish grin appeared. I laughed and hugged her close. She turned around in my lap and put my hands on her stomach. "Jacob, what happens if they find us. What will they do with our baby? What if they turn it into some science experiment!" I laughed once- and just held her close.

"Ness nothing is going to happen to our baby. I will never let anything hurt her."

"HER? How do you know it's a girl?"

"Well I don't. I hope it's a girl. I want a girl so she can be just like her mom." I kissed her head.

"Well, I want a boy, so he can be just like you."

We just laughed together and sat there. My hands moved smoothly over her stomach.

"JACOB I GOT IT!" she sat straight up and looked over at me.

"What? You got what?"

"I know what we can do." I was too confused to ask any questions. "Look, they are hunters right? They will follow a trail where ever it leads, right?"

"Riight?"

"Then that's all we need. We can make a fake trail and lead them away from Washington! They will leave Forks, and everyone alone."

"That is a GOOD idea. But who are we going to get to do that?"

"I don't know. Sam could help couldn't he?"

"I don't think we have any other choice. He will have to agree."
