Chapter 18 The Plan

Jacob POV

"Sam!"

"Jacob, it's the middle of the night. What is so urgent that we needed to meet right now?"

"Ness and I have figured out a way to get rid of the hunters."

"Okay?"

"We create a diversion, a fake trail, lead them far away from Washington."

"Sounds simple enough. But how exactly do we go about doing that?"

"Someone could go to Washington, "make an appearance" and then they will follow them."

"You're crazy, who do you figure for the suicide mission?"

"I don't know, someone. But it will be easy. We travel a whole lot faster then the humans, even with their vehicles. We can easily out run them. Take a trail somewhere new, and then leave as a human."

"I think you are forgetting one thing Jacob. Who are YOU going to convince to do it?"

"Well, I hadn't really thought that far ahead."

"Jacob, unless someone WILLINGLY comes forward and says they will do it. I am not allowing it, at least from my pack. OUR job as ALPHA dogs are to protect our packs, not matter what the cost. And here you are, willing to throw some one's life away."

"They wouldn't be throwing their life away, it would not take very long."

"No Jacob, find someone from your pack, or no one goes."

I growled at Sam as he walked back into his house. CRAP! Now what? I didn't ever think of the danger. There was no other way. We didn't have time to figure out another way. I sat down on my porch and sighed. He was right. I couldn't endanger my pack. I swore to protect them. And that is what I was going to do. I would protect everyone. Yes sir, I was electing myself to go. Now, how to tell the Mrs. I walked another long walk back into the house. This was not going to be easy to convince Ness to let me do it.

Ness was asleep on our bed when I came in. When I sat on the bed she woke and looked at me. I couldn't look at her in the eyes. She would know that something was wrong.

"Jacob? What's wrong?" She said. She must be tired of asking me that.

"Ness, I have to tell you something. I know that you are not going to like it, and are going to be very upset with me. But please remember. One, you are pregnant, so you can't flip out. And two, that there is no other way."

"Okay Jake, not liking where this is going."

"Ness, I explained the plan to Sam, he thought it was good, just not the part about sending someone to do it, he thought it was way too dangerous. I tried to explain to him that there was no other way. He refused to send any of his pack to do the job. He told me that either someone from mine, or none at all." Ness's face grew to terror. She knew what I was getting at.

"JAKE, NO!"

"Ness, you don't even know what I am going to say."

"Oh, yes I do. I know you well enough Jacob Black to know that you will not endanger any one from your pack. You are NOT THE ONE WHO IS GOING!"

"I have to."

"No you don't! We will figure something else out." Ness's breathing became heavy.

"We don't have time to figure something else out. Who knows what is happening there already! What other things they have dug up!"

Ness starting crying. I sighed and pulled her into my arms. I rocked her gently trying to calm her down. "Ness, please let me do this. I have to keep everyone safe, I can't allow anymore danger or harm to come to anyone that I love."
