"As much," and I try to put a lot of effort into that one word, "as I love having you here, you really should be going home," I tell her and Addison tilts her head with a smirk.

"I just need to climb out of your window again."

"That's not how you are getting out. You got lucky coming in here I bet you anything that you won't be as lucky getting out."

"I promise that I'll be fine." She smiles charmingly and it works, for a second at least, until I regain my thoughts and stick with my resolution of keeping her as safe as I can.

"Hey, it's crazy out there right now, and as lovely as you would look with green hair, it's not what you want for your life...so please.." I pout and flutter my lashes at her until she rolls her eyes and nods.

"Okay, I guess I'll go ask one of the guards for a ride. It's not like my parents grounding me is going to make a difference anymore. I'm just happy to have been able to see you."

"I have to say I'm sort of glad you did. I feel like I can take on twenty people right now."

She pats my arms, "Yeah, let's not get too excited."

"I won't." I chuckle, "Here I'll walk you to the gate." Addison went to take my hand but I pulled it away.

"Nope," I say and her smile slips, "how am I supposed to show off my ring if you cover it with your hand?"

She looks relieved as her mouth curves into a smile, "You know most guys would dread the fact that they have to wear a ring out in public, or just wear a ring in general."

"I'm not most guys: I'm a zombie." I tell her, wiggling my eyebrows.

Addison laughs at that.

"Now stop wasting time and let's get you home."

She runs her thumb across the back of my hand, "I don't know when I'll be able to see you again."

"Your dad and his people will find whoever is doing this soon enough. There's no way in or out right now--"

"I wasn't seen, and I really wasn't supposed to be out of my house." She says bluntly, "so how difficult will it be for someone else to do the same?"

I nod my head in acknowledgment, "Well seeing as you are here, not that difficult I guess, but they are going to be able to find out who it is by the teeth marks on officer Heins."

Her lips twitch, "And then we can end this whole thing. We find my cousin, we find Bonzo and the others and we work to move past this."

"That sounds pretty good to me," I mutter as I lean down to kiss her. The thought that I might not be able to kiss her for a while flashes through my head and I savor every second I can get, which to my devastation is only a few. We are both startled by a crash coming from outside of my window. Addison is the one to pull away, heading to the window before I can. I move a second later and stand behind her, looking over her head easily. There's a group of people outside and my immediate thoughts are it's an army just for Addison...but when I look at them for a moment longer I notice that none of them are wearing any uniforms. These people-humans-look enraged. A couple of guards come rushing from behind them and try talking to some of them and all of a sudden a few of them lash out, pushing the officers to the ground. Another woman knocks down a stack of chairs in front of one of the houses and another man with a torch sets it on fire.

"What are they doing?" Addison yells, pushing past me to go downstairs. I'm stuck to my spot in disbelief of what they are doing. The way that people automatically resort to a mob-like mentality, to destruction, and perceived anger towards a group of people that are not the same as them. I turn away from the window to follow Addison, because I know her and what she is capable of doing and I also know that those people might not care who is in their way. The last time a group of humans showed up this way was a few years when Zoey had only been a few days old. A disagreement with a waste management worker resorted in a fight that left a human with a broken hand. When it was decided that the Zombie who had broken the hand had only done it out of self-defense and was subsequently let go, the people sought their revenge. It was only a small group of people that came but they left their lasting marks in Zombietown and within Zed's own family.
