No one is allowed in or out of Zombietown, but then again, neither is anyone in Seabrook. Both towns are on lockdown. I'm not sure if that has happened before. And here's the thing: Seabrook residents are actually stuck inside their houses. My father said it was because we literally live in a town made for Zombie, and all exits are able to be patrolled...so basically it's like before we made progress, except now we can't get out for any reason at all.
I'm stuck indoors anyway; with a swollen nose and cheek that I have to watch out for or they won't heal properly, and abs that feel stiff as a board (which is not how I thought it would be to have hard abs). I was one hundred percent right about it hurting like crazy today, which doesn't really make me feel any better, but I had to point it out.
"How are you feeling there bud?" My dad asks me when I join him for breakfast, "Every time I went to check on you last night, you were wide awake. Did you get any sleep?"
"I feel like I've fallen down a set of stairs...I never have, but I'm pretty sure this is what it feels like. I think I was out for like an hour or two, do my eyes look redder than usual?" I opened my eyes wide, moving my eyebrows up and down like crazy and my dad chuckles.
"Come on sit down and eat, you need food." He says, flipping a pancake onto a plate.
"Where's Zo?" I ask him, shuffling toward the table, the smell of the pancakes making my stomach hurt from hunger.
"She didn't get much sleep either, she was scared....luckily Puppy snuggled up right next to her and she's sleeping right now." He tells me, placing a plate of pancakes in front of me.
"That's good, she shouldn't worry about anything at her age," I say, digging into the pancakes.
"No, she should not." He agrees with a sigh, dragging a seat to sit across from me.
"Hey dad, did you find out any more news about the officer who was bit?" I say with my mouth full of pancake. It was something I asked him all night but every time he went out to check with the patrol, no one had any news and we were all left wondering in terror.
"That's not a very appropriate breakfast conversation." He tells me, taking a bite of his own food. The way he says it, he finally knows something.
"It is when Zoey isn't around to hear it," I say, leaning in and waiting for him to answer my question. My dad sighs again, setting his fork and knife down.
"An officer Heins. I believe he was the one at the school, the one you told me about last night, but they didn't find any jacket with him."
I put my fork down, suddenly not hungry at all, "Yeah, that was him last night...Is he okay?" I already know what happens when a Zombie bites a human, but I still ask hoping for a different outcome.
"He will be soon, they have him locked up and they have a Z-band ready for when he turns. Dale said that he had bite marks but nothing that needed major medical attention."
"I'm glad they found him before, you know..." I didn't need to finish my sentence.
My father nods, already knowing, "Before another outbreak."
"Yeah." I get chills down my spine just thinking about that happening.
"The only good thing that came from this is that with the bite mark they will be able to match the teeth to the attacker."
I grimace, "It's something positive that comes out of this."
My dad can only nod, "That poor man is going to have a hard time conditioning himself to his new Zombie life. He's the first known case in many years. The majority of us were born this way but he has to really go through the transformation."
