"Here we are—your perfect little cul-de-sac." I stop in the middle of the street and Addison keeps going, turning on her feet to look at me. Her eyes were puffy and she was biting her lip. I reach up with one of my hands and slowly trail my thumb on her cheekbone.
She heaves a heavy sigh, resting her hand on top of mine, "Do you want to stay for dinner? It's just going to be me, my parents are working longer hours and I don't want to eat by myself again."
"What's for dinner?"
"Pasta." She answers, leaning into my hand.
I grin at her, "The kind that has the cheese that stretches like a mile high?"
She perks up the tiniest bit at my smile, "Hopefully If I can follow the recipe."
"I'll help you, it'll make things quicker."
She straightens, "I feel like that's your way of not believing I can make a pasta?"
"No, that's my way of offering help so I won't be standing there looking at you the entire time, I mean, I'm going to be looking at you regardless, because you are the most beautiful thing in my life, but at least this way I'm doing something productive."
She flutters her eyelashes at me and sighs in content, leaning into my chest and hugging me.
"Zed," She mumbles against me, "thank you for making me feel like everything is alright."
I hug her back, reveling in the feeling of being able to hold her.
I think I am the most fortunate Zombie in Seabrook.
I feel her heart pumping steadily and I lean my head down to rest it against her shoulder.
"Thank you for existing in the first place," I say tenderly. Her arms tighten around me for a second before she lets me go.
"I really Gar Gi Zar you," She whispers looking up and my entire face lights up.
"Me too."
She smiles happily, "Let's get inside before it gets any colder out here."
"Good idea."
...
The pasta was amazing, but I'm biased because I made it with her and I learned from the best person; my pops. When it was time to clean everything I found that Addison had disappeared on me. I didn't mind cleaning up though, I am kind of awesome at it. Addison miraculously showed up again when I was finished wiping the dishes dry.
"Not a fan of washing the dishes, are you?" I grumble playfully. Addison gives me her widest grin.
"It's not that I'm not a fan of it," She begins to say but then she shakes her head, "no, it is that. I hate washing dishes. When the bits of mushy food touches my fingers I feel grimy, like I need to shower immediately sort of grimy."
I can't help but laugh, "You're such a dork." I throw the dish rag at her and she moves aside swiftly.
"Wanna watch something?"
"I would love nothing more than to stay here with you so you won't be alone, but, my dad asked me not to stay out too late this week. He has to go to work early and I have to watch Zoey."
Her face falls momentarily but she brings it back up, nodding her head in understanding, "It's okay, Zed, I'm just glad you were here with me."
I wink at her, "Well thank you for inviting me."
She smiles again, pushing her white hair behind her ear, "Stop looking at me like that."
I grin, "Does it bother you?"
