"What are you two doing?", Petra asked, rupturing into the room. Jesse and I sprang apart before we got any closer. We gawked at each other, then back at Petra. Was Jesse trying to--No! Impossible! We're just friends, right? I maintained to have a conversation in my head. Jesse peered up at Petra. He appeared to be in awestruck. Petra appeared to be trying to figure out what happened before she brutally intervened. I had to break the silence somehow. "Um....W-We were...--". "Nevermind that, Jesse come see this," Petra urges Jesse towards her. Jesse faintly smiled at me before getting up and leaving the room, disregarding I was ever in his presence. I felt this emotion. It wasn't anger. Or lust. It was regret. What would have happened if I made the first move? Would Jesse still be sitting by my side? Holding me in his warm grasp, softly telling me that he'll always be there for me. An inaudible exhalation fled my lips as I slowly placed my head on the spot Jesse took over.
"TNT? Falling from the sky?!", Olivia opposed. I took a brisk peek at what they were viewing. It was a video scanner or BeaconTown. People were shrieking and panicking as blocks of lit TNT were plummeting from the clouds. "Now I've seen everything," Axel muttered. "And I've seen EVERYTHING". Jesse rolled his eyes. "That's not even the scariest bit. Check it". Petra zoomed into the corner of the screen. There was a flash of a dark figure before it vanished. It wasn't very clear what the figure was. But, I doubt The Order knew either. "What was that?", Jesse asked. My prognostications were correct. "Let me slow the video down," Petra suggested, pressing an unusual button. She replayed the video. I couldn't believe what I saw. I could hear my heart thumping through my ears. My body completely stiffed at the image. "Hey, doesn't that look like Steve, the old builder (Yes, I made Steve an old builder). Except with white, glowy eyes?", Olivia queried. I slowly commenced to back away, but unfortunately for me, "Y/N?". I froze. "Crap!", I cursed under my breath. As the group proceeded to gawk at me, I rubbed the back of my neck, giggling apprehensively. "I thought you were back in the room", Petra grunted at my demeanour. "Sorry! I had nothing to do, so, I thought I'd help with whatever problem you're having," my voice came out as a murmur. "But, obviously, you have everything under control." "HERO HUDDLE!", Axel yelled out and pulled everyone in.
"Jesse, she just going to interfere", Petra whispered. Jesse frowned at her for two seconds before his scowl diminished. "Maybe she can help us?", Olivia recommended. "What does she know about Old Builders?", Petra asked. "You never know. You can't assume things without finding out first".
As The Order was muttering to each other, I stood there meekly, wondering what to do. Should I go? Should I stay? Should I interrupt? I stiffly whistled, waiting patiently outside the huddle. Jesse looked up and gave me a sign that meant, "Give us one more minute'.
"Maybe Jesse should ask her," Axel proposed. "What? Why me?", Jesse asked. "Because you're the only one she is comfortable with, duh," Axel smirked. Jesse groaned and left the huddle to avoid any further embarrassment. "Y/N? Can we talk?", Jesse asked without gazing at me. I silently swilled but, casually nodded.
Jesse and I progressed around the corner. Away from the group and unexpected discomfort. "I promise that--". "It's ok if you saw", Jesse smiled. Giving him a perplexed look, I let out a miniature, "Ok". "I just--", he hesitated to finish his sentence, before he recapitulated. "We're in the middle of a crisis right now. We may have another deadly person on the run that no-one knows about". I bit my lip. Would it give my secret away if he noticed that I knew? "Well, I'm sure you can find someone who knows about that strange, obvious physiques," I stuttered to plaster a fake smile. "Not that I know. Enigmas and mysterious figures aren't my scenes". I tried to cover up my fib with an apprehensive laughter. Of course, it didn't anything but, make Jesse even more sceptical. He gave me a look that made me feel like the stupidest person in the world. His curious orbs pierced into my life force. How was he doing that? It's almost like he was using his peer to force the truth out of me. Whatever he was trying to accomplish, it was working. "It's a good thing you're better at fighting than lying. Because you are a TERRIBLE liar", he genuinely stated. I bit my bottom lip. Trying to stop myself from blurting out the probity. "Just tell me the truth, Y/N. I thought by now I've gained your trust". "You have!", I immediately concurred. Jesse didn't look too persuaded. "It's just....", my voice trailed off. Jesse finally gave up. His sorrowful eyes shifted away from mine. A huge wave of guilt washed over my body. "Never mind. It wasn't important anyway". He sauntered off. I didn't want him to leave, thinking I didn't trust him. Why were my emotions so good at manipulating me? "You want to know so badly?", I grumbled ever so silently. "It's Herobrine". Jesse stopped dead in his tracks. His aspect showed the most appalled face I've ever seen. "Herobrine?! I thought he was--", Jesse was cut off by me wrapping my hands around his mouth and pulling him further away from the others. He didn't try to fight back, but he was awfully puzzled by my actions. "Yes. I know. You thought he was dead, but unfortunately, you were wrong". Jesse was still processing what I said. His mind must have wandered off in all different directions just thinking about it. "Wait a minute! How do you know Herobrine is alive?" I stiffed, showing Jesse a bewildered grimace. He tapped his fingers firmly. Anticipating his answer. "I read it in a book or something," I misled. Jesse unmistakably knew I was lying again, but this time, he let it slide.
Jesse and I wandered back to the group. Petra grabbed Jesse's arm and pulled him closer to her and away from me. "Did you find out anything?", she whispered in his ear. "I'll....I'll explain later," he susurrated, gawking my direction. That was close, too close, I thought. Jesse would've killed me if he knew. Olivia and Axel were still examining the video scanner. Lukas was writing in some sort of journal. I decided to go assist Jesse. "I feel like she is fibbing about something," Pera whispered. I walked over to Jesse, who seemed to be annoyed. "Who's fibbing?", I interrupted. Petra turned her head to scowl at me. "You. I don't believe that found out about Herobrine from a book. His personal information is classified", Petra advanced closer towards me as my body reacted to me stride away from her. "What are you hiding?". "Petra, you're making her uncomfortable", Jesse defied her. He stepped in front of me in case Petra decided to take matters into her own hands. Which wouldn't be very pleasant for me. Petra softly gazed at Jesse, then harshly scowled at me before leaving the area.
"Forget about her. She's probably just feeling moody today," Jesse reassured me. That smile. The same one that sends butterflies to flutter in my stomach. I'm not sure why, but I wasn't complaining. We kept gawking at each other for what seemed like forever. I couldn't take my eyes off his twinkling pair. And I doubted Jesse was going to look away anytime soon. I desired to gaze more until I detected someone counting down. "3...2...1!" Jesse and I spun around in unison. "Y/N and Jesse sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!", the others sang. "Actually, rephrasing that", Lukas recasted, turning towards me. "Are you afraid of heights?" I firmly shook my head. "Well then: 'First comes the love, then comes the marriage. Then comes the baby in the baby carriage'", he proceeded with the stupid song. Jesse facepalmed as his face started to turn a shade of red. I clutched onto my arms and dug my face into it so that no-one could see my crimson face. "Their faces are red," Axel called out. "That must mean they're i--", Jesse covered Axel mouth so, he couldn't humiliate him anymore. The rest of The Order chuckled at how flustered Jesse was over a girl. "You guys are the worst", Jesse grunted.
