I crossed my legs, digging my toes under the blanket. I intertwined my fingers, glancing at Petra on the opposing bed. I was truly still confused. Petra had the chance to expose me and have Jesse hate me, just like she wanted. But, she actually walked through the polar blizzard, just to inform me that she didn't tell him. "I don't understand", I spoke up, resting my palms on the sheets. "Why do you want to hear my side of the story. Just a few days ago, you hated me". Petra flinched imperceptibly at the word, hate. She narrowed her eyebrows, casually turning away, with her cheeks flushed. At least I think they were. Since she walked through the cold, her whole face was crimsoned red, so I couldn't tell if it was from distress or that's her catching a cold.
"I need to know; why did you lie to us?", Petra required, using her hands to support her head up while planting her elbows on her knees. "I...I knew if I told you, you guys would never like me again", I admitted, almost forming tears in my eyes, before I promptly used the edge of my sleeve to wipe them away. "And how right was I?". Petra gave me a pitiful look, biting her bottom of her lip, mildly. She looked like she regretted telling me off before. Of course, she wouldn't admit it, as her ego was too high.
"I never asked for my dad to be an evil villain trying to kill everyone who defies him", I ranted, standing up and pacing to the opposite end on the room, while Petra's gaze was blearily secured on me. "I never wanted any of you to find out or get hurt because of me". I buried my face into the palms of my hand, gently gritting my teeth in an unsatisfying manner. "It's...It's not your fault", Petra announced, standing up strolling up to me. "None of this is. I shouldn't have been so hard on you, for something you have no control over". Hearing that come out of Petra was like a miniature rainbow appearing over my head, making me beam.
Suddenly, we heard rustling noises and footsteps coming from outside the door. Max. He must be back. Petra caught my astonished gaze, obviously thinking fast. She hauled herself through the gap in the wall where Max was supposed to place a glass pane when he got the time, and jumped out. Before I could see if she was ok, Max swung the door open, only to be greeted by me. "(Y/N)? Why are you still awake?", he asked, stunned and bewildered. I stuttered restlessly. A part of me didn't want Max to know Petra was here. I had to lie. "I was looking for you", I fabricated, plastering a fraudulent smile on my face, as Max shut the door behind him. "I woke up and you were gone. Where were you?". Max glanced at the floor, for a solid 5 seconds, before returning his pure gaze to me. "I just went for a walk", he gently smiled at me, stepping up to place a hand on my cheek, while stroking it with his thumb, ever-so-gently. "Why? Where you worried about me?".
Narrowing my eyebrows, with a slight blush on my cheeks, I stubbornly shook my head. "I knew you could take care of yourself, I was just curious, that's all", I said, tangling my fingers. Max slipped his hand off my face, while my gaze was still fixed to the ground. "You should get some sleep. Or you'll be tired in the morning", he said, walking behind me, placing his hand on the back of my shoulders, leading me to the bed. I reclined down on the bed, turning my head to gape at the wall. I knew Max wasn't in bed. I could hear him shuffling near the door, or in the other room. I neglected it. I glanced up, just barely exceeding my vision of the moon the covered its luminous light over Beacon City.
"Hey".
"(Y/N)?".
