The title does have a little truth in it, you know.
I feel like nobody pays much attention to Carlotta, even though she's not even that bad.
Yes, she was a bit of a diva. But I think everyone has their drama queen moments at some point in their lives, so you can't really blame her for that.
In both the novel and the musical, La Carlotta was the prima donna everyone (or at least most people) loved. Yes, she acted like a diva when Christine came along, but she had reason for that. She had been getting mysterious threatening letters from O.G., and she really thought there was some kind of plot against her having to do with Christine.
That might seem kind of silly, but it wasn't to Carlotta. You know, this young woman suddenly shows up to sing, and everyone just loves her. It's understandable if Carlotta would be jealous.
One thing I don't like about the 2004 film is that they made it seem Carlotta was a terrible singer and that no one really liked her, when in both novel and musical, she was a much-admired and celebrated leading lady. It wasn't that she couldn't sing; it was simply that Erik had taught Christine to sing better.
Despite the diva qualities, you have to give Carlotta some credit for being a very celebrated diva. Being a star isn't an easy thing.
