I've decided I wanted to start doing this thing where I talk about original cast recordings from the show, given that there have been so many productions. The best place to start, I thought, would be with the Original London Cast, since everyone knows that one.
Thoughts on the OLC seem to be a little mixed within the fandom: some people like it, some don't. I personally love it. So far, it's my favorite cast recording of the show, and I love the whole cast.
I don't think I could say anything bad about the cast, because I think they're all great, and everyone one would just be me saying how great they are, so here's the list:
Michael Crawford as the Phantom of the Opera
Sarah Brightman as Christine Daae
Steve Barton as Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny
John Savident and David Firth as MM. Firmin and Andre
Rosemary Ashe as Carlotta Guidicelli
John Aron as Ubaldo Piangi
Mary Millar as Madame Giry
Janet Devenish as Meg Giry
Janos Kurucz as Joseph Buquet
I know there isn't really much to this, but I'll go more into the casts with the other soundtracks. The next ones I do will probably the Original Canadian Cast (since that's also in English), and the Original Swedish Cast (since I love the leads).
Let me know if there's one you recommend, or if you'd like me to do the 2004 movie cast, because I'd do that, too.
