When Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the musical, he did change the story around a little from the original novel (but it mostly kept to the original plotline). There were two characters in the novel who were left out of the musical.
The Persian: This character was actually pretty important in the book, though he was never given a name; he was just called 'The Persian', and 'Daroga' by Erik. He knew Erik, and knew who he was. The Persian was once the Daroga, the chief of police in Persia. Erik made his way into the court of the Sultan with his magical and musical abilities, but his death was ordered when he built the Sultan a secret palace to hide his treasure, so he never tell anyone. The Persian helped him escape, and was exiled from Persia for it. And on top of that, Raoul probably never would have been able to find Christine without his help. So...yeah, I feel like it was a bit of a shame he got cut out of the musical.
Count Philippe Chagny: The Count Philippe Chagny was Raoul's older brother. He wasn't as important a character as The Persian, but he still had his part. Philippe was a lot older than Raoul, and their mother died when Raoul was just a baby (I don't recall any mention of their father, so I'm assuming he also died), so Philippe was really the one who raised Raoul. Philippe was against the idea of Raoul marrying Christine, but that was just him being concerned about his brother (because historically, I don't think noblemen normally married theater actresses). I think he was really more like a father to Raoul than a brother.
I can't think of anyone else, just them. I really don't why I felt the need to write this chapter. Maybe just to bring them a little more attention.
