The first bell rang loudly throughout all of Daveed High, signaling the start of the first period and announcing to the students that it was time to be quiet and learn. Of course, for the classes with substitutes or late teachers, that had a rare chance of happening. Mr. Washington's class was among these rowdy, teacherless classrooms. Mr. Washington never made it to the school on time, which meant his first-period class was much more reminiscent of a zoo than a classroom. Students were running around and talking as loudly as they pleased, much to the disturbance of the few students who wanted a quiet classroom experience.
In the middle of the chaos of Mr. Washington's first-period class were Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. The two despised one another with a burning passion that could not be quelled. The two were currently arguing in the middle of the room, a crowd of their classmates surrounding them, oohing and ahhing at the two's quick wit and sharp tongues. Currently, the two were arguing about whether or not pennies should continue being produced. Hamilton was on the side that they shouldn't, arguing that they were worthless and most people just threw them out anyway. Jefferson was arguing the opposite, claiming that they could rise in worth in the near future.
Five minutes into their debate, personal insults were already being thrown back and forth like a venomous baseball. Each insult gave way to another attack, each one becoming more vicious and personal as the debate dragged on. This wasn't uncommon among their fights, in fact, it was the only thing that stayed consistent amongst all of their countless yet still equally as pointless debates. As the debate progressed, it began getting physical. It started with a shove from Hamilton, then a shove in return from Jefferson. The fight continued escalating like this until before anyone knew it, both boys were on the ground, going at one another like wild beasts fighting for the same prey.
Chants from the two boys' classmates echoed around the room, egging the two on in their full-on fight. Jefferson currently had the upper hand in the fight; he was sitting on Hamilton's chest and pinning the shorter boy's wrists above his head with one arm. Jefferson pulled his free arm back, preparing to punch the annoying gremlin he knew as Hamilton in the face when the entire class heard a deep voice that they all knew too well echo throughout the classroom.
"Class get to your seats and begin reading from page two hundred in your textbooks." Mr. Washington glared at his class from the doorway as they hurriedly scampered to their assigned seats. He then redirected his glare to Jefferson and Hamilton, who were still in the same position that they'd been in when Mr. Washington had walked in. The two boys shrunk under Washington's intimidating glare "Hamilton. Jefferson. Get off of the floor and follow me to the principal's office." Mr. Washington then walked out into the hall and waited for the two boys to join him.
As soon as they were in the hallway with Mr. Washington, the two boys began bickering once more, pinning the blame on one another. Mr. Washington glared at the two and separated them before their arguing could escalate once more. With an exasperated sigh, Mr. Washington grabbed each of the boys' arms and began dragging them to the principal's office. "Now, before we go in," Mr. Washington began saying, coming to a stop in front of the main office. "Tell me what you two were arguing about this time, and what escalated it into a fist fight. You two are exceptional students and have bright futures ahead of you, but you're destroying those futures with these pointless fights of yours. Alexander, you explain first."
Hamilton glared at Jefferson one more time before stepping forward. "Sir before I begin, I would like to explain that Jefferson both started it and escalated it." Jefferson opened his mouth to protest but Mr. Washington waved him off before he could even sigh. He nodded at Alexander to continue. "So, I was sitting at my desk, waiting for you to get to class when Jefferson sat on my desk. I told him to move, he didn't. We began arguing and then he brought my family matters into the argument, so I shoved him. He shoved me back and began calling me names that related to my personal life, egging me on. I then attempted to punch him, and then he shoved me to the ground, which is about where we were when you intervened, sir"
