YUZURU was thankful that Yuna did not beat the crap out of him. She had the knuckle and every reason to do it.He would have accepted her blow but he was partly grateful that she didn't. He felt so numb from all the cold. He had been standing there since he came in the afternoon, waiting for her to come home. The house was locked and empty. The snow did not stop from falling and it was not until the house burst into light that he decided to give Yuna a ring. Ten rings on her mobile to be exact. By the eleventh try, she answered the call.
He had never felt any happier. The girl eventually opened the door for him to come in. He was freezing cold. He had no gloves when he wore them all the time in the rink, plus he was also wearing sneakers instead of winter boots. For a person travelling in this cold weather, he surely had no sense.
“What are you doing here?” was her first question when they finally settled by the dining table. It was dinner time already and her housemates had not arrived yet.
He scratched a part of his cheek. “I’ve been hiking.”
She looked at him squarely. He looked down upon meeting her death glare.
“Of course, am not.” He quickly said. “I came to see you.”
“You need not to.” She muttered sourly. In her head she was thinking, You did not even bother to call me after all these months. She was careful not to add that though.
They fell silent. Yuna raised her gaze to meet his. His face was red from the cold.
“When did you arrive?” She inquired with a degree of coldness that reached a negative.
Yuzuru must have felt really numb at the moment for barely recognizing her cold treatment. “An hour ago, I came here from the airport.” He replied with a half-moon smile.
She ignored the smile and refused to return it. So he had been waiting for an hour now? Was Yuna’s thought. “Alone?” She implored.
He nodded. “I just went back to Japan for a short break from these months of training and I thought of seeing you.”
Yuna tried to glance at the guy only to find him already staring at her. She immediately looked away and stood up which startled Yuzuru. An awkward silence followed after. While Yuna was busy trying not to be embarrassed, Yuzuru confined himself into thinking if he said something wrong.
So they both waited for the other to speak. But Yuna managed to find a detour by saying, “I’ll prepare something for you to eat.”
---
Yuna knew that Yuzuru was not really fond of eating Korean food. His stomach could only take what her mother made. Apparently, the food her mother made had the Japanese taste having a Japanese tongue herself. She thought about ordering chicken but the snow had not stopped yet and the delivery might take some time. Instead, she chose to make rice rolls and prepared ramyun for him to have something warm to eat for dinner. Yuna worked silently in the kitchen while Yuzuru sat still on his chair. They mainly kept their mouth shut.
“Thank you for the dinner, Yuna. I’ll eat healthily.” Yuzuru said gratefully.
She placed a slice of kimchi on the top of his rice roll, “Eat up. Mother made the kimchi.”
Unlike their first meeting, the two did not talk much now. They ate silently after that as well. At 9 in the evening, the other tenants of the house had not arrived yet.
“Have you made any hotel reservations?” She finally asked, breaking the towering invisible wall between them.
“Oh,” Yuzuru uttered. “Not yet. I forgot to do that.” Said the guy cluelessly.
