THEY arrived at Pyeongchang before midnight.
Yuna dropped Yuzuru at the gates of the Olympic Village. The poor guy wanted to walk Yuna home but the latter insisted for him to stay and go back to the hotel to rest.
"Are you sure you'll be fine?" Yuzuru asked for the third time. "It's very late already." It just occured to him the trouble he caused her and he was already drowning in guilt.
"Yeah, our house isn't very far from here." Yuna said looking around. "Besides, I know the area well." She assured. Her ears were red from the cold and then sneezed. "Arghhh. Hurry and go inside, it's freaking cold here." Her hands were in the pockets of her coat. Yuzuru suddenly got caught in nostalgia as he stared at this grown Yuna.
He remembered how years ago, bck when they were younger, she would brave the cold of the ruthless winter to join him in his trainings even if she still had school to think of. She had always been caring and unselfish towards him. In return, he had always depended on her like a boat reliant to an anchor; for without her, he was like a lost soul.
Who would have thought that years later they stayed pretty much as the same individuals? Except that, they were older now and the constant play of the Fates to them had made him bolder.
He took a woobly step forward to Yuna, ignoring the slight pain in his right ankle caused by the cold. Her eyes narrowed at his closeness, and before she could even cuss at him which turned to be a habit recently, he wrapped his tiny arms around her.
"Yuna..." He whispered as he pressed his face gently on her shoulder. He felt how her body laxed in his embrace.
Slowly, she pulled her hands out of her pockets to hug him too. "Yuzuru..." She uttered his name with equal gentleness.
They stayed that way in the cold of the night. Somehow, they did not need words for the mere presence of each other gave them comfort beyond verbal language could provide.
Yuna was the one to break their silence, "Hanyu?"
Yuzuru did not answer nor move.
"Don't you dare sleep on me, you idiot." She warned.
Her remark sounded so hilarious in his ears that he started laughing out loud.
"I'll see you on my Short Program then?" He asked, detaching himself from her body. They were standing few feet away from each other.
"Yes." She answered. "Go inside now, Yuzu and sleep."
"Thanks for today, Yuna. Message me once you get home. Take care."
She smiled at his behest, "I will. You do the same."
---
Yuna went home as soon as Yuzuru was out of her sight. Her mother who opened the door for her was surprised to find her eldest child lurking outside at midnight.
"Yuni-ah?" Her mother barely recognized here. "Come inside. Why are you here at midnight?"
Yuna quickly entered their house. "I had to drop something around town so I thought of spending the night here, eomma."
Her mother helped with her coat and hang it by the door, "You should have given us a call earlier."
Yuna removed her shoes and placed them by the rack, "Mianhae, eomma."
"Have you eaten?" The elder Kim asked.
She nodded her head as she placed her things on the couch. "Go to sleep, eomma. I can handle myself."
Her mother eyed her hesistantly but was too tired to insist and so she told her eldest daughter good night and went back to her bed. Yuna went to her room to change her clothes.
