Three months after the incident, Yuzuru was able to continue with his skating. He trained diligently. The horrors of the disaster still haunted him but the will to make his dreams come true was stronger. He worked hard. He wanted to pay back his parents. He wanted to give hope to Sendai. He wanted to keep his promise to Yuna.
He missed Yuna everyday. It took a while before communications in Sendai was fixed and the last time they were together, Yuna had lost her phone. There's no other way to reach her but to pay a personal visit.
Before the ice shows he signed up for started, Yuzuru convinced his parents to go home to Sendai for a while. His parents agreed as they also wanted to check their house and their neighbour's well-being after the disaster.
There was no training that day so Yuzuru was very excited to go back to his hometown. Upon their arrival at Sendai, he noticed that most of the ruins had been cleared but the emotional pain that it brought the people could still be felt from the people. They drove to where the temporary housing was located. He roamed around the settlement area to look for her, but he couldn't seem to find he. As he did another round, he immediately spotted Kyoko. She was wearing her uniform. He heard from the news that they opened temporary schools too to accommodate the students who were affected by the calamity.
"Kyoko!"
"Y-Yuzuru?!" Kyoko seemed not to recognize him. "Yuzuru!!!" She finally exclaimed when it dawned to her that it really was her childhood friend, Yuzuru.
"How are you?" He asked. He was excited to see an old friend.
"I just gome home from school." Kyoko answered. "You see, they've built temporary schools too. The main building is still under construction so they had to build tents for us to stay in. How about you?"
He told her about the transition from here to the south in Yokohoma. He told her about the ice shows he would do over the summer and other what nots that he had been saving to tell his friends here.
"Wow! That's heroic of you, Yuzu. The local government should build a monument with your face on it." She said convincingly.
Yuzuru smiled. "By the way, I've been looking around here. I haven't seen Yuna. Is she still at school?"
"Oh Yuna." Kyoko said with a flat voice.
He noticed right away the sudden change of expression. "Kim Yuna." He emphasized her name. "Where can I find her?"
He saw how Kyoko gripped the straps of her backpack, bit her lips and hesitated. "Actually..."
"What?" he felt nervous.
"Yuna had left for Korea last month."

Three months ago... Yuna woke up from another aftershock. She was thankful that it was not loud enough that Min Seok did not wake up. He had been crying from every aftershock that happened since the disaster. She remained still beside her brother. The school hall was so crowded and the corner that they were stuck up did not allow her to move much. She closed her eyes and forced herself not to think of the horrifying images that unfolded before her eyes.
She kept her eyes closed, trying to ignore the faint shaking of the taraflex she's lying on.
"What should we do now, then?" She heard her father speak in Korean. She thought initially that he was talking to her until she heard her mother's voice.
"I don't know." She said, suppressing a sob so as not to wake the sleeping children. "It's hard for me to see the kids suffering here."
In her head, Yuna imagined her father holding her mother's hand.
"Hizuka."
"Mmm..."
"How about we go back to Korea?"
Korea? Her thoughts echoed his father's words.
"It's late already. Let's sleep and talk about it tomorrow."
Korea. It has been long since her parents brought it up. She remembered clearly how she hated to be in Japan. If she heard this conversation years ago, it would have made her happy. Hearing it now, she felt her heart grow heavy.
She had grown to love Sendai over the years. It had witnessed milestones in her life. Leaving now, when everything and everyone else was suffering made her sad.
When she heard her parents silently snoring, she decided to get up and go outside the hall.
Why is it everytime she had found comfort in a place, she would be forced to leave? Yuna thought to herself as she sat by the huge block just near the groove area outside the hall.
She thought of her school here, the friends she had made, and of course, Yuzuru. If the plan went just like what she heard from her parents' conversation, she would have to leave him before he could even win in the Worlds Podium. She was so consumed with her own thoughts that she did not even notice her tears rolling. Her peripheral vision caught a movement not far from her. It was a bit dark from where she was but she knew the figure so well. Drying her tears, she walked to where he was.
"Yuzu?" She called.
The young man turned to her way and smiled, "Yuna..." He said.
She sat beside him. She remembered their first meeting when they sneaked out from their classes in 5th Grade. Tonight, they did it again after a long time and maybe for the last.
----
I am afraid I will spend my entire life trying not to miss you.

(A/N: This is my first note here (and will probably be my last as well 🤣). This should do a good stand alone already, 'no?😂 I have always imagined Yuzuru and Yuna doing a collab on the ice... Then I thought that it wasn't probably gonna happen anytime soon (or in this lifetime!!!😭😢💔!!!) so I thought of this story and made the collab happen here instead. Hahaha. Still not sure if I'm going to add anything to this yet. Anyway, thanks a lot for reading!!!😍)
