Chapter 8
Annika quickly entered Vikram and Sonakshi's room, which was just in front of hers, and closed the door behind her, unaware of the fact that Shivaay had opened the door of her room to stop her. She walked inside to see Shivi sitting on the bed with Aryan, watching the television and Sonakshi and Vikram in deep conversation. As soon as Vikram saw her, he got up.
"Anni, what happened? Is everything all right? Did you meet him? What did he say?" He asked as Sonakshi too came near her.
"Yes I did. Him and the entire family. Everyone was here." She said with a sigh and Sonakshi bit her lip.
"So, how was it, what did you talk about?" Vikram asked as Annika leaned on the coffee table.
"I avoided talking about myself and talked about them instead. Got to know many interesting things." She said with a soft smile as Sonakshi's interest peaked.
"Really? Like what?" She asked.
"Well, my elder ex-brother-in-law got married a few months ago, my younger ex-brother-in-law got married a few years ago and is going to have a baby! My ex-friend cum ex-sister-in-law is a now fashion stylist! My elder ex-in-laws, who were sharing a very toxic and unhealthy marriage when I left, have successfully mended it. And on top of it, his mother was giving me a strange vibe." Annika said, remembering Pinky Oberoi's face and the expressions on them.
"Wow, that's quite a lot of information! And what did he say? Did he ask you questions?" Sonakshi asked as Vikram poured a glass of water for Annika.
"Yes he did. Asked me why I left." She said, taking a sip of the cool water. "I was thinking that he would ask that but I actually didn't expect him to ask it. I mean, it's been four years, he should understand by now why I left like that!"
"Anni, you left without saying anything to anyone. Just like that, overnight. How in the world would he know what pushed you to the edge?" Sonakshi said as a matter of fact and Annika sighed.
"I don't know. Why wouldn't he know? Whatever happened happened in front of his own eyes. I was being taken for granted and getting insulted and humiliated, being called anaath and manhoos and whatnot. He isn't blind or deaf! He could very well see and hear what was happening! You know, when everyone came to know about me being an orphan, nobody actually said anything, except his mother of course. She had a gala time insulting me, using such offensive language that it bruised my soul. And him? He said, I don't care if you are an orphan. And the next moment I hear him telling his mother that he will have to choose between me and his beliefs? To think that he had to even think about it is so insulting. I wanted to be more important than his principles and beliefs and I was not. And I understand that it's not easy to ditch something which has been taught to you since the day you were born. But that was the last straw. There was no future for us, then why should I waste my time and my life into hoping something that was not possible? That's stupidity and I am everything but stupid." Annika said, her eyes glassy with unshed tears.
Sonakshi hugged her tightly and Vikram kissed her forehead.
"Anni, you are the most important person, okay? The best person ever, the bestest friend, the finest sister, the most amazing mother. Don't forget that! He is one stupid man to let you go!" Vikram said and Sonakshi agreed, nodding her head with a grin on her lips. Annika chuckled and crossed her arms.
"Hey, I know that. I am the best, there's no question in it! And you guys are quite ok too." She said and both laughed loudly.
Annika's phone pinged with a notification and Sonakshi picked it up.
