It had been a couple of months since Barnes had separated the team. It still had been the most surprising, yet also not surprising, thing to have happened. The BAU team had been through hell and back together. There had always been moments where they have been closed to being disbanded and shut down for good but they fought for that and they sure as hell would fight against Barnes. But this time was a tricky situation especially knowing that Barnes was super close with the director of the Bureau.
The one good thing that did happen was Melanie moving back to the east coast as well as trying to fix things up with Spencer. They still had a few things they needed to work on but it didn't stop them from being a little bit lovey dovey with one another from time to time. There were days that Melanie came to his classes because she knew it made him feel comfortable as well as a little bit more focused. Most of the time Melanie never knew what he was talking about but hearing his voice and seeing him so passionate of what he was talking about in a group of college students made her happy.
Melanie had been at Spencer's place working when Spencer had walked in from another day of teaching. The male set his things onto the arm chair before taking a seat next to the journalist and let out an exasperated sigh. Melanie laughed softly and closed her laptop and set it onto the coffee table.
"Rough day?" She questioned. Spencer nodded his head and rested his head against his shoulder.
Spencer loved teaching but he loved being out on the field much more. The thought of not doing what he loved most was killing him on the inside and there was nothing much he could do about it. They (the team) still couldn't figure out a way to take down Barnes, especially when they all worked different schedules. It had been a long while since any of them saw one another.
"Just found out most of my students, well not even most - all of them, are auditing my class." Spencer replied. "I'm over this. I need to get back onto the field."
Melanie rested her head onto Spencer's letting out a soft sigh herself. She wished there was more he could do to help but there was nothing that she could think of except keep him occupied and hope for the best that things turned around.
"I'm sorry, Spence. Ironically, I wish you were back onto the field. I know normally it should be the opposite but you love being the federal agent you were trained to be...it's what makes you happy and all I can do is support that." She told him. "And that's all I want you know? Is for you to be happy."
Spencer lifted up his head to fully look at the journalist. "I am happy. I'm the happiest I've ever been. You're here. We're working things out and that's all I could ever ask for."
Melanie smiled at his words. "Happy to be here, Spence." She leaned over to kiss his cheek. "But can I just ask...have you really not talked to anyone since you guys have been reassigned?"
Spencer shook his head. "Other than the casual conversations I have with Luke whenever I'm over at your guys' place, not really. It's so weird you know? You go from seeing the people you e worked with and talked to for most of your life and now...now it's like we're being forced into becoming total strangers." The male sighed softly and shook his head once more. "How about you? You ever talk to anyone on the team?"
Melanie shrugged her shoulders. "Here and there. I just know that Luke, JJ, and Matt are much more frustrated than ever. Their new tech analyst, Ned? Yeah, Luke told me they call him 'Anti-Garcia.' Apparently he's the worst but also they're pinning him up against the best tech analyst of all times." She laughed softly, shaking her head. "P works in cyber crimes now which I guess is close to what she does but she compares her boss to the color beige: bland as hell."
Spencer let out a chuckle. "Well it seems like you know what's going on much more than I do."
Melanie nodded. "Yeah but I also live with Luke and I always ask him what's going on."
