Melanie's days have been busy. But that was nothing new with the journalist. If anything, she loved keeping busy. It took her mind off things - not that she had anything going on in her life to be constantly thinking about something but sitting around doing nothing did make her antsy. Even at night she would try to do some work but that slowly seemed to have changed in the last couple of weeks.

Ever since her and Matt had spoken over the phone, it somewhat became a nightly routine. If not every night, the two would chit chat about their day which lead to two hour conversations about whatever came off the top of their heads. Each conversation was never a dull one and Melanie surely appreciated that. The feeling of worrisome of getting close to someone else in her brother's team seemed to have slowly faded away. It didn't matter to her anymore. Only because to her, it was harmless conversations.

That was until she had a conversation with Sam about her nightly talks with Matt.

"Mellie, are you insane?!" Sam exclaimed over the phone. "Okay insane is pushing it but...do you like the guy?"

Although he couldn't see, Melanie shrugged her shoulders. The girl flopped onto her stomach on the bed and propped herself up with her elbows. She honestly felt like a high school girl.

"I don't know. He's pretty cool actually. But he's currently separated from his wife and he has three kids and that's just messy." Melanie replied. "Do I really wanna get involved with someone who has issues with a soon to be ex wife who is also the mother of his kids? Sam, Im not ready to be a mom. Let alone a step mom."

All Sam could do was laugh hard at his friend. She sounded ridiculous but he couldn't agree more on her statement.

"I could agree to that. But I guess it doesn't hurt putting yourself out there. I know you haven't been with anyone since Spencer so I think it'd be time for you to go out there." Sam said.

Melanie rolled her eyes but smiled at her friend's remark. He was right. She hasn't quite put herself out there after her and Spencer broke up. Of course it took her awhile to get over him and also just any guy she would casually talk to just could never compare to the federal agent.

Spencer was always interesting. He always had something to say and that's what Melanie loved about him. There was never a dull moment and she could never get bored talking to him. She always learned something new.

"Yeah. But whenever we do talk, Spence and I, I still get those dumb butterflies in my stomach. It's been two years, Sam. I shouldn't be hung up like this." Melanie sighed softly and flipped over onto her back. "Help me."

Sam chuckled softly. "I don't know how exactly but we'll figure it out. Maybe you should move back to D.C."

Not a day goes back where Mellie doesn't think that. She missed D.C. a ton. Her friends. Her family. They were all there. It's not that she wasn't appreciative of Joy and the job she had given her but it wasn't quite home in San Francisco.

"I know. But you know why I decided to move out here. A fresh start." Melanie stated.

Sam sighed. "I know but it's not the same without you, Mellie. But...Scratch is dead now. There's not much to worry about anymore."

Truth be told, that was partially the reason why she moved. Knowing that Scratch was out there made her love somewhat in fear. During the two years she had moved, it was odd that Scratch remained silent. It was a relief as well but also terrifying.

But leaving to start anew was a bit of fresh air for the girl. It just felt like everything went bad once she got involved with Spencer but maybe that was just part of being in a relationship with a federal agent. No criminal, or unsub, liked feds and the best way to get under their skin was to put the ones they loved in danger.
