It's been two years since Melanie had moved out to San Francisco to work with a close friend of hers. She was hoping that moving out would be a mistake but she was proved wrong. It was one of the best things that could happen. She was in a brand new city, been more involved in investigative research, and it just felt like fresh air for her. While starting a new job, she was balancing a long distance relationship with none other than Spencer Reid.
The first three months were a breeze for the both of them. They were both invested in their work which helped time go faster for them. And when the 30 days started for Spencer's requirement to take off work, it was the best thirty days that the pair could ever imagine. They went sight seeing together. Took a bunch of touristy pictures.
But of course, good things soon come to an end. And that was the case for both Spencer and Melanie.
The time difference really did start to impact their relationship and because the workload was so much, Melanie had to ask Spencer to skip out on every other 30 day vacation he's gotten. It became a lot more frustrating to the agent than the journalist herself. Spencer needed her back. He wanted her back.
But both of them knew neither of them would be willing to drop their careers to be able to spend the time, and the rest of their lives, with the other person. It was painful for both parties to end their relationship but they knew it was for the best. There's not a day goes by where Melanie felt a wave of guilt flood her mind. She always wondered what if she didn't take the job in San Francisco? What if she just stayed in D.C.? Her life was coming together after all. But with how things have turned out in California, she was happy. Maybe not as happy as she was when she was with Spencer but sometimes thing do happen for a reason.
