Melanie leaned back against her chair as she rubbed her forehead. It had been a couple of weeks since returned from Quantico after a short visit. There was no reason for her to stay even after the desperate pleads of her friends and brother. But there was one person that her mind couldn't wrap around: Matt Simmons.

It was the first time in a long time that she had thought about someone else that wasn't Spencer and she wasn't quite sure how to feel about that.

First off, she was probably never gonna see him again. Or well, hardly ever. And secondly, according to Penelope - he was married. Or...separated actually. But still married nonetheless since they haven't legally divorced (yet).

Though trying to get someone who was on the same team as her ex boyfriend and brother seemed a little weird and not as ethical. But it didn't hurt to find Matt attractive.

But the most important part is that Scratch was dead and she could finally publish the story she was working on about him. She had wanted to for the longest time but she didn't want to take the risk. The girl sat up straight and took to her computer when she heard nothing but sirens blaring out. She glanced out and saw police cars and ambulances flying down the street.

"Something crazy must've happened ." Joy said walking over to Melanie. She leaned against her desk.

"You're telling me. Maybe it's a bad accident or something." Melanie responded, shrugging. She leaned back against her chair once more and looked up at her friend. "Is there anything I can do to help you, boss?"

Joy laughed softly. "Nah. I had nothing better else to do." The woman looked over at Melanie's computer screen and raised an eyebrow when she took notice of Scratch's name in the headline. "You writing about Scratch?"

Melanie shook her head. "No. I was writing about Scratch. I wrote this when I first heard about him. It's the reason why I was taken. I use to post things about him to see if I could get information to write my piece. After I was saved by the BAU, I couldn't bring myself to post it. I may not have gotten the right closure but I feel like this might be exactly what I need to finally put the past behind me."

Joy gave her a bright smile and a pat on the shoulder. "I fully support that. I can't wait to read it! When are you gonna post it?"

"I was just about to actually." Melanie replied. "But these sirens dude, they're never ending."

And the journalist was correct. It just seemed like there were endless amounts of police and ambulances racing down the road.

"Must be one serious accident, holy hell." Joy commented.

"You guys have got to see this!" hollered one of the employees.

Joy and Melanie both looked at one another before they made their way to the area where most employees take their breaks. On the TV screen was news on how there was a shooting at a video game development company. There were a number of fatalities.

"Oh my god," was all could come out of Melanie's mouth.

In her couple of years being San Francisco, there was nothing like this. Sure, mass shootings were pretty common in America but to have one happen not to far from where she was was surprising.

"A video game company though? That is completely random. Well, most shootings are but this is just...bizarre." Melanie commented.

"Alright everyone, back to work. Find out what we know about this shooting. The victims. It's still a new case but it's not too late to get on top of it." Joy told everyone.

After everyone dispersed to their desks, Joy walked with Melanie back to her desk.

"You think the BAU will be part of this?" Joy asked.
