Chapter 2

We’re at the beach and the air is so refreshing. There’s so many people here, it's outrageous. I prep myself onto one of the chairs Samantha and her friends brought. Through the entire car ride Samantha or should I say “Sammy”? That’s what everyone calls her by the looks of it. Well, Sammy told everyone in the car about our little encounter. They all laughed and smiled at me. Also, the nickname “Guts” has caught on. Everyone’s been calling me that as soon as Sammy told them. The only one who doesn’t call me that is of course Mila. She’s obviously the only one in her right mind.

Everyone’s in the water except me. I’m watching Mila play in the water with Sammy’s friends. Looks like they became friends quick and easily. But, she’s mostly playing in the water with one of Sammy's friends Brennan. He’s splashing water on her as she’s running away from him. He’s chasing her and it’s kind of…kind of cute to watch.

“Hey!” Sammy sets her towel down and lays in it with her perfect body showing with her blue bikini on her.

“Hi…” My attention still held on Mila and Brennan.

“They’re so cute, huh?”

“I don’t know. I don’t care.”

I feel her smiling at me.

“What?” I ask.

“You know I can see through your cold exterior. It’s just a mask. Listen, you may hate being here now cause you miss your old life…but you have a new life now. It’s time to recreate yourself and let go of the past. You can take off the mask now and be yourself here.”

“Why should I?”

“Because there was a time when your old life was your new life and you gave it a chance. So…you should give this one a chance too.”

“And if I don’t give this new life a chance?”

Sammy puts her index finger in between her teeth with a thinking expression on her face.

“I really didn’t want to get wet this time but oh well!” She gets up.

“What’re you talking about?” She grabs my hand and runs off towards the ocean. I struggle under her grip trying to get out of her grasp. She may be a skinny girl but she’s much stronger than she looks.

She runs into the ocean with me still under her grip. I get lower and lower the deeper we get into the water. My entire body is in the water except for my face slighty above the water.

“What the hell Sammy?”

Her smile grows larger and wider as I acknowledge I called her by her nickname that everyone calls her.

“I like the way it sounds from you Guts.”
