Leonardo watched as his wife tied her hair up in a ponytail, his two eldest daughters unconsciously doing the same while his youngest sat on the ground, slummed over, her chin in her hand. Part of him was already regretting his suggestion that they spar. Adriane was clearly much more experienced than either one of them, easily able to crush either one, or anyone in combat, she never lost. But, his curiosity of seeing both his girls work together and see how they got along with only a few days of training.
On the other hand, Adraine was bubbling with fear. Of course, she was happy to see her daughter after so many years, but she couldn't help but wonder what her advisers would say. What they would do once they found out she had lied to them for so many years. As far as they knew, Dakota had been killed off a little over fifteen years ago. She was no threat, there was no way of the prophecy coming true if only one of her twins was alive. She wasn't afraid of what they would do to her, she'd gladly give up any claim to the throne for her kids, but she feared what they would do to Dakota once they found out she was real and how strong she was in conjunction with Dallas. She feared for both her daughters if she was being honest.
"Are we gonna get this shit started or what?" Calliope grumbled, slouching back, already done with the whole ordeal. She was over the novelty of having another sister. Especially one that looked like Dallas, but acted completely opposite. Harry was right, this new addition to the family was bad news.
"Language," Dallas scolded without bothering to look at her sister, trying not to let her nerves show. It was one thing to fight Ethan and feel like she was ready to take on their mother, and it was something entirely different to actually be standing in front of her, knowing she was going to be crushed.
Her brother and father had too much faith in them.
Then there was Harry, who also knew the danger of going up against Adraine. Though he knew he and Dallas no longer stood a chance, he couldn't help but feel nervous and protective over her. He still loved her after all.
"Be careful," he mumbled as he walked passed both sisters to sit down next to Calliope, the only person who was still talking to him without giving him the stink eye. Which he still didn't understand. Aside from Dallas, he expected Calliope to be the one to hate him the most.
"I hope she kicks their ass," the little girl grumbled, leaning her head against Harry's shoulder.
"Don't worry, that's exactly what's going to happen," he mumbled back, debating with himself if he should just let this play out or try to help Dallas in some way or not.
Dallas kept her head down, making sure the wraps on her hands were secure, flexing her fingers to gauge their fit and mobility range. Anything to keep from looking up at her mother. Or the rest of her family for that matter. As much as she didn't agree with many, many of her mother's choices, she never saw herself actually fighting against her. She was used to sparing with her family, this should be no different, but she had never gone up against her mother and she wasn't sure she was ready to do so.
Dakota on the other hand was more than ready. She had been waiting for this moment her whole life. Even when she imagined the perfect excuse as to way her parents abandoned her like an unwanted puppy on the side of the road; she couldn't understand why her own mother didn't try harder to keep her.
"Choose your weapons," Adriane advised as she pulled a pair of sticks from their storage, more curious as to what Dakota would chose.
Without much thought, both girls went for the same weapons as their mother, confidence building within Dallas as she admired the familiar weapons in her hands. Even Ethan, who was secretly worried for his sister felt the confidence boost. He would never admit it to her face, but with the Kali sticks, Dallas was his best student. Dakota on the other hand, it was the first time he was seeing her around any time of weapon, he was curious to see how this would turn out.
