Connor's POV

A buzzing sound pierced through the room. Connor had just gotten home from working a shift at the hospital. It was a long shift but her made it home and immediately gravitated to the couch for a nap. His phone woke him up. The last thing her expected was Reese calling him.

As soon as he seen her name on the screen, he got nervous and dropped the phone and stared down at it for a second. Realizing that this could be his chance, her quickly picked up the phone and answered it, "Uhhhh. Hey?" There was a pause on the line. All he wanted to do was hear her voice.. At the same time, he was worried that all the pain her felt after she left, would come back up.

Sarah's POV

After connor answered, she jumped out of her chair, "Connor??" She asked, waiting for an answer. "Sarah.. What are you doing??" A smile started to creep up on her face. It felt like she hadn't actually smiled since she left until now, "I had a break between patients.. I just thought that I would call and tell you Happy Birthday." she told him. "Well thank you." Connor didn't sound very happy. "Whats wrong?? You don't sound good."

"Sarah. You left me and now your calling to tell me happy birthday like nothing ever happened?" He raised his voice a little. "I'm sorry.. I would come home but I cant just leave. Plus It really doesn't seem like you want me there anyway."

Connor's POV

Connor sighed at her reply. "I'm not going to sit here and beg for you to come home when leaving was your idea in the first place and you wouldn't listen anyway." He could hear Sarah sniffle on the other end. "Sarah.. Just stay safe... When are you at least planning on coming home?" There was a pause and then a sigh. Connor just waited. Finally she said, "I don't really know Connor. I'll go home whenever they tell me to."

They talked on the phone for a little bit longer before hanging up. Talking to her made him feel better but he still had lost all hope of things getting back to normal anytime soon.

Six months after Sarah left

Sarah's POV

Sarah went through airport security. She was on her way home. As much as she wanted to see Connor, she knew she wasn't ready and he probably wasn't either. The trip to Africa was shorter than she had planned staying, but she was proud of all the people she helped overall. Sarah decided to stay with her parents for the first few weeks in Chicago to get acclimated.

Sure. It was fine. Living with her parents reminded her of old times, some good and some bad.. In the end it was nothing like living with Connor.

To Sarah, she liked the break from everything. It cleared her mind, but enough was enough. She knew Connor would be mad but she would have to confront him about all of this eventually.

She got in her car and started to drive to his place. The drive was a stress full one. She drove by his house a couple times out of nervousness before she finally parked.
