Silence.

That is what surrounded us.

Awkward silence.

I had no idea how to comfort Lily because deep inside even I was clear about how f*cked up the situation was.

The rogue, which not less than 10 minutes ago, tried to kill us is Lily's mate.

Like, seriously?

The guy whose head Ashler would love to have on a plate and decorate with cilantro.

And actually not just him, I don't really think anyone in the pack would approve of him.

I knew how badly Lily wanted to meet her mate, but this is crazy on a whole new level.

I switched places with Lily because she was too distracted to drive. She looked outside the window, lost in her own thoughts.

For the first time ever I had seen her so quiet and sad.

"Hannah, can you please not tell Ashler about this?" Lily pleaded after a moment.

"Lily, Ashler needs to know. It's important." I replied back frowning.

"Hannah I need time. Please try to understand. Once I'm clear about this, I swear I'm going to tell Ashler myself." She requested.

I looked at her and saw fear shining in her eyes. She was scared.

"Uggh...Ashler is going to kill me when he finds out I knew about it." I said, giving in.

"Thank you Hannah! I just need a little time to figure some things out." She said, her eyes filling with tears.

Oh Lily! What did you get me into?

******

We stood outside the front door, waiting for someone to open the door.

"How about we just slip inside?" Lily asked.

"We could've. If we didn't bring two dead bodies in our backseat." I replied, rolling my eyes at her.

The door opened and Maria stood at the door, terrified.

"Hello Maria." I said, smiling a little.

She just kept looking at me with wide eyes and a nervous posture.

"So you girls finally decided to come back?" Someone spoke, extremely calmly.

But I knew better. That voice was anything but calm.

Maria bowed her head down and moved to her left, displaying Ashler. His arms were crossed across his chest and he had a poker face on.

"I think I'm going to head to bed. I'm not feeling so good." Lily said, placing a hand on her forehead, trying to slip away.

I mouthed 'bitch' to her.

"Ashler we can explain-" I said.

"Don't you see? There's nothing to explain. Hannah such recklessness isn't going to be accepted here. You're the luna of this pack. You should have been here with me in the pack house instead of disappearing somewhere and having the audacity to shut off your mind- link." He said, angry.

I just decided to stay quiet because he wasn't completely wrong.

"It was just a day of fun..." I tried to reason with him.

He sighed in frustration and ran a hand through his hair, messing it up even more.

"Have you even looked at the time?" He said, pointing at the wall clock.
