From whatever happened tuesday night, it must've been a good one due to the way vivian clung to ethan in admirable actions. they were smiling and talked in hushed forms of words but still seemed happy. it made me feel at ease and hoped for the shortage of drama today. yet madeline was back and was beginning to feel a little better after her sick day. the group was beginning to mend it's pieces and it made feel a little better what the happy outcome could be for the rest of the year.

"so what did i miss yesterday?" madeline questions while i lean onto the locker next to her when she reaches for the books she needed. a small grin and chuckle leave my lips.

"too much."

"well, fuck, why does this always happen to me whenever i'm out of school for one day?" madeline whines and i give her a sympathetic stare when she pouts.

"don't worry, it's all better now. so i don't have to fill you in." i say this thankfully and she nods agreeing and as she shuts her locker, grayson and jack walk up to us. "morning." i comment cheerfully and they do the same back.

"did you miss calc?" jack questions wrapping an arm around madeline's shoulders as we walked side by side to class. our arms swaying and footsteps clear throughout the hall. but madeline scoffs and softly shimmies her shoulders so the boy can remove his touch from her.

"not one bit, actually." she says and i giggled at her phrase. grayson smiles and still strolled besides us, even when he doesn't have the class with us.

"well you missed me, obviously." jack states and she laughs as we reach the classroom and she sits down.

"not one bit, actually." she repeats and chuckles causing him to roll his eyes.

"c'mon, when are you going to stop dubbing me and finally flirt back?" jack says and she shakes her head and leans over to the boy with a smug smile.

"probably never." she taps his nose with the pad of her index finger causing him to loose the smile when she leans back into place of her seat, "also it doesn't help that you had a little lowkey fling and crush on my best friend." madeline says not even paying attention to the consequences of her words. that was until a few seconds later and she widens her eyes and looks at me with already sorriness painted on her face.

"well shit." she mumbles to herself. this makes me refuse to look at the boy who i am on a break with who stands beside me when i glance at jack. he possesses the same face as me. it's filled with terror and confusion of what to do.

"wait, what best friend?" he questions.

"uhm, you know, just like eva." madeline says in a voice that is not convincing and grayson scoffs.

"mads you hate eva, how is she your best friend?" grayson states and she shakes her head and uses her left hand to scratch through her hair gently, out of nervousness.

"no, what, i love her." she tells him in a shaky voice and i can see from the corner of my eye that he crosses his arms and gapes at me.

"is it aurora?"

"pffftt, what, no." she drags out her words and this is when i can finally look at him and sigh.

"enough madeline, you're horrible at lying. yes it was me, grayson. jack liked me in the summer and i kind of did too. but it never got past anything of that because of david." i explain already done with the show of what madeline put on for us. i look away as soon as i do because i can't bare to look at grayson. i am afraid of the outcome when it really isn't nothing bad.

"what about me?" david smugly asks as he walks in with as vivian follows behind him with a questionable look stitched within her eyes.

"nothing, asshat. mind your business." madeline states and he puts his hand up in surrender as he diverts himself to the back of the classroom.
