it was yumi's birthday and she wasn't very excited about it. she really didn't have any plans on doing anything special. it was her second birthday without her parents (because of their overseas work) and since that she had always celebrated it alone.
she got ready for school and opened the door to catch the bus and saw a note at her doorstep.

she smiled at the heart drawn. it was such a stupid thing to be flustered by.
she got on the bus with the letter in her hand and went to school.

once lunch rolled around she went up to the little patio. she started hanging out there during lunch break instead of going to the canteen and sat at the bench just admiring the scenery.
suddenly yumi felt someone sit next to her. then her eyes were covered by warm hands. they felt familiar to her?
"guess who"
"l-lucas?"
she heard a soft chuckle.
"yep it's me your favorite"
"happy birthday!!" he said giving her a hug. her breath hitched as she hadn't received a legitimate hug in a long while.
it felt nice and she hugged him back. they stayed like that for a while until they both pulled away.
"i brought you lunch" lucas said taking out something from his backpack.
it was a little tin moomin lunch box .

"open it" he stayed smiling at me.
yumi thought it was the cutest thing ever as her heart dropped to the floor. she didn't know how he could have known what her favorite childhood cartoon was.
she opened the box and it was full of her favorite foods. it was like a little bento box . the rice was shaped like little hearts. she felt my face warm up and once again she smiled.
"wait i forgot something else!" he said looking through his backpack again .
lucas pulled out two bottles of strawberry milk. he opened both and handed one to yumi while scooting over closer to her .
she looked at him confused.
he put the strawberry milk bottle against his lips.
"i thought you hated strawberry milk ?" she told him
"to be honest i've never tried it and i want to try it with you. it's your day after all."
he smiled warmly and stared into her eyes with so much care.
"3 , 2 , and 1"
he counted down as they both drank the milk.
"it's not too bad"
they laughed as they finished up their lunch. the bell rang and they got to class. she was so happy. he made her feel this way. when nobody else had or even tried .
