"you want to get some ice cream?"
she asked lucas as they were walking back home together after school.

"i can't have ice cream right now i'm sick"
he replied with a frown.

"you have a cold?"

"yep"
he coughed a bit.

"here i have some cough drops"

yumi looked through her bag for the little bag of cough drops she always kept with her just in case.

"i have cherry flavored ones and lemon flavored ones"
she said taking out both bags of cough drops and almost gasping at how close lucas was.

he stared at her and backed away awkwardly.

"choose for me"
he said staring at her deeply.

she acted as if nothing happened.

"hmm the cherry ones taste better"

"then i'll take those please"
he softly smiled.

yumi gave him the bag. he opened it and took two out. lucas really enjoyed the taste of the sweet droplet. it didn't taste as infused with horrible tasting chemicals as all the others. it was sweet and tastes just like a natural cherry. it seemed almost homemade.

"you get sick often?"
she asked out of curiosity and just because she wanted to try to start a conversation as they got closer to their homes.

"unfortunately yes. it's been a problem for a while. but don't worry about it."

she felt her heart sink

"i have to go. see you tomorrow yumi"
he waved and smiled

she could clearly see it was a forced smile.

"see you"

"thanks for the cough drops again i really appreciate it"
he said as he opened the door and went inside.

once he finally closed the door shut yumi started getting worried about him. she knew she had to be the one to start taking care of him.
