i was doing fine without you,
until i saw your eyes
turn away from mine

2019 was a fog to mayumi. a blank space in her mind that she knew had to be filled but didn't know with what. she thought about it all the time but could never come up with an answer.
she had really accomplished at forgetting everything.

it happened so long ago that sometimes she would find herself laughing at how silly she was for trying to remember some unknown significance in what happened about 8 years ago.

yumi had grown into a very mature and strong minded woman. she had gotten into the medical field when she turned 20 and ever since has been one of greatest medical experts im korea. after graduating college she had moved back to seoul and worked at one the best hospitals there.

her cough drops company had grown and was starting to gain popularity worldwide.
she would even show up on the tv where they would interview her on the product.

most of the interview questions were the same. usually something about the ingredients and how it worked. this time it was kinda different.

once yumi heard the questions
"how did this whole cough drops thing start? what was the inspiration? is there a story behind it?"
her mind went blank. it went to that same spot that seemed to bother her. it would come up at moments like these. it must have gone on for a while since the interviewer started waving her hand in front of yumi's face.

she snapped back into reality. she quickly apologized but it was too late the interview was already over. time had run out.

as she left the building she kept rubbing her temples trying to figure out what in the world was going on with her.

next morning mayumi had a huge headache.
her head seemed to be spinning and her vision was going in and out of focus. she tried to control it cause she still had to get to work.

right when she got to the hospital there was multiple things happening. noises were triggering yumi and making her head hurt more than it already did.

nurse haseul had noticed and called her over.

"dr. mayumi are you okay?"
she held yumi's shoulders as she could barely stand.

"yes i'll be fine"
the young female held her head and squinted.
she tried to stay in her spot and go on with her job but she was already being led to her office by haseul.

"you seem stressed, did something happen?"
she asked the doctor with a worried expression.

"no everything was fine i just got a,
a headache out of the sudden"
mayumi seemed to get her vision back and started feeling better.

she sighed.
she hated that she felt this way, she needed to get to work and couldn't let this dumb headache get in the way.

all of a sudden there was a bang on the office door and it slammed open.

"dr. mayumi we need your help! we have an emergency!
her eyes widened and she rushed out of the room.

"mayumi wait you still haven't gotten treated!"
haseul tried calling her over but mayumi didn't listen and followed the EMT.

"here he is, he is currently close to being unconscious we don't know what is wrong with him."

he continued as they entered the elevator.

"we have put him in a room and he seems to be fine at the moment but he could really go unconscious any second. his blood pressure is low and he's having trouble breathing"

they were getting closer to the room after exiting the elevator. her head seemed to be getting heavier and heavier as they got close to room 64.

"yes can i have some personal information of the patient?"
mayumi asked.

she looked around as they walked down the hall. her breathing got heavier as the room numbers increased.

room 60,

room 61,

room 62,

room 63,

"yes the patient didn't have many belongings with him. we did find an ID though"

room 64

mayumi turned the doorknob and pushed the door open.

"it states his name is wong yukhei, but he goes by the name lucas."

her heart stopped. she stood there in the doorway, her had still on the doorknob.
she saw him there. laying on the hospital bed.
depending on the oxygen mask placed over his nose and mouth to be able to breathe.

yumi herself held her breathe.
her head pain had gone away but
a pain in her heart started to grow.
she was getting flashbacks.

flashbacks from a year she wasn't familiar with anymore. one that she tried so hard to forget.
her efforts were worth nothing as
once she saw how his eyes fluttered open as he stared at her. with a certain sadness in his eyes.

they were glazed and sparkled as if they had tears in them.

once he looked away from her
that's when she truly realized something.

her love for him had not completely
withered away.

he was the answer to the interview question
