each other's
eternal ambitions and cures

✿;
days, weeks, and months were all filled with the same feeling of incompleteness and lost desire to go on. nothing felt new or exciting. every event or holiday felt like any other day because even when lucas was surrounded by as many people as possible he was still as alone as ever.

it was all dark without yumi. it hurt to think about her and how he had lost her. he was still as in love with her as ever.

today ,december 31st, was the new years performance and everyone was ready to get on stage. lucas shook off all the nerves he had even when he had been doing this for almost a year. seolhyun came and gave him a kiss on the forehead along with a pat on the back. sometimes he closed his eyes and tried to imagine it was yumi who would be doing that but it just didn't feel the same.

after performing, every artist was called over to the stage to do the countdown to the new year. they called the MCs up one by one.
one name after another. lucas got distracted and just started to stare down to the ground.

"and lastly but certainly not least, kim yumi!"

lucas' eyes shot up in less then a second, he frantically looked around the stage using his height to his advantage looking over everyone's head. he finally got a look and frowned. it wasn't her. it wasn't the kim yumi.

moments later seoulhyun came running next to him.

"3"
"2"
"1"
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

she pulled him into a kiss and everyone cheered, confetti falling from the ceiling. lucas wasn't even moving any bit of his body. not one drop of excitement or happiness appeared on his face. it was full of despair and frustration.

seoulhyun pulled back and smiled looking forward. cameras snapped and lucas then forced a smile.

❁;

all she could do was watch endlessly at the tv screen. juyeon cheered and hugged her.

"happy new year yumi ! come on why the bland face?"

yumi just shook her head and smiled.

"i'll go get us some champagne!"
he exclaimed.

"it's okay juyeon, i'll have a strawberry milk instead."

he just nodded then faced the tv.

"omg look ! NCT is there!"
he fanboy-ed almost screeching and jumped up and down like a little boy.

then she saw him, with her.
his smile.
his eyes completely emotionless and empty but his smile full. everything yumi had forced herself to forget came back and she couldn't take it.

then the couple went off frame.
she turned back to juyeon right as he was going to leave.

"make that two strawberry milks"
yumi said sighing deeply.

third person POV

yumi decided to take a walk down the streets of seoul to get some fresh air. so late at night you would think it would all be a pool of darkness but fireworks were painted all over the sky.

making her jump every second at her hate of loud noises. this made her want to turn back to the apartment but she heard something that made her stay.

the noise filled her with nostalgia and it made all the other sounds of everyone celebrating the new year fade away. everything was cancelled out but these sobs.

she walked towards the sound. which led to a dark alleyway. this seemed to be the only part of the city drowned in darkness. pitch black.

her ears tingled as she heard the familiar sound. recognizing them to the ones she heard one night. the night when the cries were heard outside the front door. the same sniffs and hard breathes. the only thing missing was the multiple raindrops that fell that one night. but even then the rain hitting the pavement were silenced by these sounds.

yumi walked closer to it, hiding behind a couple boxes stacked on top of each other. her heavy breathing grew silent. now it was clear that there was figure sitting down. back against the wall, knees pulled up to the chest with arms wrapped around legs.

she was so distracted in her own thoughts that she didn't notice a bright light.

-

the light directed right to the figure.
there lucas was, roughly brushing away his tears as more of them escaped his eyes. his eyes fluttered closed due to the bright light. he couldn't see who was behind it. but lucas felt the same feeling of nostalgia. he was sure that it was her shining the light. she was there. they had finally found each other.

he swallowed the lump in his throat.

"yumi ?"

the light switches off.
and again darkness fell.
all until at the perfect moment a firework launched up into the air right above which lightened up the area for a slight second.

this red light showed seoulhyun. angrily glaring at him pulling him by the collar to get him up.

"why are you out here like this, i was so worried."
she started rambling all sorts of things.

"most importantly why do you still say that name?"
she dragged him out of the alleyway.

yumi sighed. tears threatening to come out as she ran back to the apartment. and he watched her run away.
