Chapter Twenty-Three: Pain

"Why did they have to  die..." The frail and cold bodies of her two most beloved people brushed against her pale skin. She continued to stare at them, ignoring the looks the Akatsuki members were giving her. "Why is God so cruel to me?" Sakura asked no one in particular.

"Sakura, don't cry. We're all sad that Itachi has passed on. But that is how things go in the Shinobi World. Either Kill or be killed. You'll have to face pain eventually." Pein sort of comforted. 

She wiped her tears away and got back up on her feet. "Well, I bet neither of them want to see me like this." Sakura walked back into Itachi's room and let her finger slide across his dressing table. Already beginning to miss his presence. She opened his drawer to find a picture of the three of them together with their parents smiling happily without a care in the world. 

A tear threatened to drip down again but she wiped it off before it could. She tightened the picture around her hand and reminded herself, "Konoha will pay." 

From that day on, Sakura became a cold-blooded and merciless criminal. She never had this thing called 'emotion' again. 

-------- 2 Months Later --------

Hidan, Deidara, Sasori and Kakuzu died.

Their lives, all taken by Konoha shinobis.

"Shinra Tensei."

Konoha was destroyed in one hit. It was in a mess.

"All of Konoha listen up. You peasants do now know what true pain is and now, we'll let you have a taste of it!" Pein's voice boomed across all of the tiny village.

Peins scattered all over Konoha. The first one was against Kakashi, Shikamaru and Kiba's family.

The second one was with Choji's and Ino's family.

The third one was with Gai's Team.

The fourth one was with Konohamaru and some other Jounins.

The fifth one was agains Tsunade and the actual one was against Naruto.

"So you finally came." Pein said. "Of course! You destroyed my village and you expect me to do nothing?" Naruto shouted. "Well you destroyed my family" Sakura screamed back.

Naruto jerked his head to the voice of the teammate he missed so much. "S-Sakura..." Naruto called with a hint of sadness in his voice. "Konoha killed my brothers. Konoha killed my family. Konoha took away everything from me." Sakura stated, making sure no detail was missed.

"Sakura... It couldn't be helped. I-"

"Shut it, Uzumaki. I had enough of you Konoha shinobis. Thinking and doing as you please. Hurting others and betraying others. Is that really what you guys want to be? That's a whole lot of bullcrap I'm hearing." Sakura interrupted, sending looks of death to Naruto.

"Sakura, back off. This is my fight. Leave yours for another time." Pein said.

"But-."

"No buts, Sakura. Listen to me. If I die, you will lead the Akatsuki with Tobi." Pein smiled. Sakura's eyes widen but then came with a nod.

'Pein smiled. He really is willing to throw his life... Why is everyone I love sacrificing themselves? What is this pain?' Sakura thought and held her chest tightly. She left the scene of the fight to allow Pein to continue, and the fight begun.

*Boom!*

An explosion came from where the fight was going on, it was so loud that even though they were miles away they could still feel the vibration strongly. Sakura turned around and stared into the smokey sky, mind blank from the rid of emotions. "Sakura, Pein was ready for this. Let him be."

"He's going to die isn't he? And I'm going to lose another loved one." Sakura looked away, trying to feel something like sadness but nothing. She felt empty. "We'll get them one day. I swear we will." Tobi said.

"Tobi, don't die on me okay?" Sakura whispered. "Yeah, I won't." Tobi answered while carrying Sakura bridal style back to hide.

A few hours later, everything was peaceful again. Everyone was celebrating their victory while Sakura was silently staring into the sky.

So today,

Pein died.

Nagato died.

Konan died.

They left Sakura, Tobi and Zetsu.

"What's the point of Akatsuki now?" Sakura asked. 

"There will be no more Akatsuki." Tobi said. 

"Then... what?" 

"We'll go our separate ways. We have different goals to accomplish. Sakura live your life to the fullest and stay alive, goodbye my cherry blossom." Tobi said and disappeared in an instant.

Sakura stared at the spot where Tobi disappeared.

'And we're back to square one.' Sakura sighed.
