Ben woke with a start, gasping for air and soaked in sweat. He swallowed repetitively in an attempt to ease his dry throat and breathed slow and deep, hoping his heartbeat would slow. The covers shifted and Rey rolled over in the bed, snuggling closer to him and burrowing her head into his shoulder.

"It's just a dream," she murmured, the phrase already familiar to her lips. Ben wrapped his arms around her.

"I killed you again." He whispered, trying to ignore the burning behind his eyes. He felt Rey's body stiffen underneath his arms. There was a moment of silence.

"You would never kill me, and you know it. Stop working yourself up." Her voice was oddly soothing. Ben found her hand and fingered the wedding band on her ring finger. He smiled, then kissed her head.

"I couldn't beat you, anyway." He tangled his fingers in her hair.

"Darn right you couldn't." Rey retorted, her breathing already slowing back to a peaceful sleep. Ben glanced at her sleeping face, the moonlight illuminating her soft, perfect features. He propped himself up on one elbow and leaned to down to kiss the tip of her nose. With a final, soft-spoken whisper of "I love you," he fell back asleep, Rey wrapped in his arms.
