The two stood side by side, staring at the X-wing starfighters lined up in the hangar. Rey had her hands on her hips, lips drawn into a thoughtful pucker, her eyebrows drawn together. Poe had his arms crossed, sneaking a glance at Rey every now and then.

"Yep, I could fly it better." Rey declared, a huge grin on her face.

"What?! You're kidding me, right?" Poe sputtered, mockingly outraged. Rey nodded her head decisively.

"Definitely."

"Hah, only in your dreams, sweetie." Poe snapped, a smirk on his face.

"Did you just call me 'sweetie'?" Rey teased. Poe's face was quickly a light shade of crimson. "No matter, you can't distract me from the fact that I would clearly win any race against you. Anything you can fly, I can fly better."

"Ha! I can fly anything better than you!"

"No you can't."

"Yes I can!"

"No you can't!"

"Yes I ca--Rey! What the heck are you doing?!" Poe watched in dismay as Rey agilely climbed into the X-wing docked next to his precious black X-wing. "Reeeyyy..." The engines roared to life. "You have got to be kidding me," Poe muttered to himself. He climbed into his own X-wing, expertly turning the starfighter on lightning-fast. Rey was already pulling out of the hangar. Poe grinned as he trailed after her. She wanted a race, she would get one.

"Alright, Captain." Rey's voice was crackly over the speaker. "First one to reach that outpost tower at the outer-edge wins! And then whoever loses has to proclaim to the whoollee base that the best pilot in the Resistance is me!" Rey smiled as Poe laughed over the intercom. Suddenly, his X-wing took off, already zipping towards the tower. "HEY!" Rey yelled. She hit the thruster and took off after him, dust clouds billowing behind her.

Poe settled back in his seat, confident of his upcoming win. Suddenly Rey flew past him at top speed. She sped further and further ahead of him, gaining dangerously fast momentum. Poe yanked on his controls, barely missing a low tree. Rey flew upwards at nearly a 90 degree angle to try and avoid a pile of boulders. She quickly recovered and continued her course to the tower.

The two pilots drew closer and closer, quickly neck-to-neck. Finally, the outpost tower grew too close for comfort and Rey and Poe pulled back on the accelerators. The X-Wings slowed quickly, swiveling around so that they now faced the other direction. They came to a complete stop and Rey and Poe hopped out.

"I win!" Poe declared.

"There is no way!" Rey retorted, her accent stronger with emotion. "If anything, it was a tie!"

"Tsk, tsk. Such a sore loser!" Poe teased, a twinkle in his warm eyes. Rey smiled despite herself, her arms still crossed. Poe wrapped an arm around her waist, drawing her closer to him. "Say it." He whispered in her ear.

"Absolutely not."

"Go ahead, say it." He heard a huff of frustration from her.

"I will not!"

"Say it."

"Fine! Rey is the best pilot in all of the Resistance!" She announced. Poe let out an indignant breath of air. Rey broke down into giggles.

"That is not what I meant!"

"Alright, alright... Poe Dameron is one of the best pilots in all of the Resistance." Rey looked up into his eyes, a twinkle in her own.

"You are so stubborn, you know that?" He chided playfully.

"One of my finest qualities." It was Poe's turn to laugh.

"Maybe, maybe not." Rey began to protest but was quickly silenced by a kiss. She blinked, surprised by the suddenness of it. "Oh, don't tell me you didn't like that." Poe winked at her.

"No, not at all. I was just wondering why it was so short." Rey grinned, then rose up on her tiptoes to kiss him again. Poe closed his eyes, thoroughly enjoying the sweetness of the kiss. When at last they broke apart, Rey was the first to break the comfortable silence. "Now, say it." She commanded. Poe sighed, then chuckled.

"Fine. You, Rey, are the best pilot in the Resistance."
