When we returned home things were tense. I relayed everything Delaney and I had seen outside. They were all hesitant on what needed to be the next move.
"As I've stated before. We should wait on the Supreme. She knows what's best. If she's told us to stay put, then that is what we shall do," Sebastian stated matter of factly.
The rest seemed to agree with him.
I shook my head in disbelief. Despite everything they couldn't make a decision for themselves. I wasn't going to stand here and argue yet again. Instead I turned on my heels and marched right to where the Supreme was residing.
When I reached her door, I didn't let my anger get the best of me. My fingers wrapped around the handle tightly, but I opened slowly, gingerly.
"I've been waiting on you, Augustus," she said softly.
She stayed hidden in the shadows, but my eyes flicked to her general direction.
"No need to relay what you've seen in the outside world. I already know what is happening. And I already know that you've made up your mind to return and fight despite my desire for you not to go."
"So that means your have no intentions on stopping me," I said.
"I do not. Instead I've adjusted my plans accordingly to benefit this move. Your new objective will be to find Jason. He's a telepath. I know he will be of benefit to your efforts. He's strong enough to be a Court member but has never had the desire to join your ranks. You'll need someone of his caliber in order to succeed."
"If you're letting me go why not force the other members to come with me? I'll succeed if I have even one of their powers. Why not Leona instead of Jason? She's a telepath herself."
I felt rather than saw Amarande shake her head.
"Should they choose to join you let them. You know I cannot divulge everything that I know, even though you have my full trust. Jason is the best one for this journey. He has the right connections to the others that have been Marked. Something the other Court members do not have. Find him, convince him to join you then proceed with whatever you have planned. All I can tell you is that you will need him, nothing else," she said.
I let out a relieved sigh and thanked her. If the Supreme said he was important then I would do everything in my power to find him.
With renewed resolve, I returned to my colleagues.
Delaney's brown eyes met mine and I gave her a slight nod.
"We're going," was all I said.
"You defy the Supreme yet again Augustus?" Philomene demanded.
"I've been given a special mission from her. Come if you will. Stay if you will. You have a choice now. But decide quickly. Delaney and I will be departing shorty."
They murmured amongst each other for a few moments. In the end Sebastian, Winston and Frederick decided to join us.
"You and Delaney are both defensive in ability. Sebastian is more strategic. Winston and I have the fighting power that you'll need. Philomene and Leona have chosen to remain behind," Frederick said.
I wasn't sure if we should be broken up like this and venture out into the world. The division between us all was as clear as night and day. For some reason the Supreme had made a concession for me and I wasn't sure why, but I was not going to delay too much on it now.
"We should get going soon then," I said. Frederick gave a slight nod and used his powers to rip a hole in space and transport us back to action.
