Dirt and crops began to levitate around us as Jason initiated his attack against us. He really didn't want much to do with us Court members, and I couldn't really blame anyone for feeling that way. We'd been complacent for way too long.
An invisible hand grabbed me by the ankle and yanked my feet right out from beneath me. One moment I had been upright and the next I was upside down, dangling in the air. Suddenly, I was tossed through the air like a rag doll.
As I went flying I failed my arms, trying to catch my balance. I knew that even if I landed roughly, I would be heal almost immediately from whatever injuries I sustained, but that didn't mean that the landing wouldn't hurt. I tumbled until I hit something like a cushion. When I got my bearings I realized that Delaney had extended her force shield to catch me. She dragged me back next to her.
Frederick and Sebastian were already on the offense. They used their powers in sync quite well, but it was still clear that they hadn't been in battle for quite some time. Jason sent a large tractor flying towards us, and as it hurtled through the air he broke it down into smaller pieces until there were thousands of daggers. Sebastian slowed down the speed of the flying weapons, but altering the speed of time and Frederick opened a hole in space, causing the daggers to disappear in thin air.
As soon as the daggers disappeared, four other openings in space-time appeared around Jason and the daggers went flying at toward him at a speed almost too fast for my eyes to keep up with. I knew the increase in speed was from Sebastian fast forwarding time.
Jason didn't even appear to flinch as he stopped each and every dagger with him mind alone. They dropped to the ground harmlessly.
"We can't even strategize without him getting into our heads. How do we defeat a guy who can read our thoughts and control every piece of matter around him?" Delaney asked me.
"We fight with our instincts. Don't think. Just do. We follow each other's leads and do what comes naturally."
"Okay," she said letting out a deep breath. I noticed she hadn't released her force field from around me, and something told me she was about to do something.
Delaney lifted me up into the air, using her force field as a foot hold and sent me shooting toward Jason. I had to balance myself as if I were riding a skateboard. As I went forward, I ended up going through one of the holes that Frederick had created and suddenly, I was behind Jason instead of in front of him.
Going only on instinct, I jumped off of my foothold and swung with everything I had.
Jason didn't even look my direction.
He used his powers to knock my fist off course from his head and then flipped me onto my back.
I told you, I'm not interested, his voice rattling through my mind.
The Supreme's orders. She says you're important so we're not leaving here without you, I replied. mentally. Jason already knew this. He'd read all of our thoughts. He knew why we were here and what events lead up to this.
You all let the earth turn to shit ,turned away Unknowns who sought out your help and are just now showing your faces. Who in their right minds would side with the Court at this point? He shot back.
Not every Court member agreed with that decision I thought.
Jason scoffed audibly.
For the most powerful Unknowns that exist you all are weak where it counts the most. You're cowards," he spat.
I couldn't rightfully disagree with that. It had taken even me too long to make a move. But what was important was that I was here right now.
Some of the daggers that Jason had made drop to the ground, suddenly impaled me. It stung a little, but my body could take it. We both knew that if it came to a deathmatch I would be the last one standing. I wasn't even convinced that ripping my head from my shoulder could kill me. I was more likely to regrow the missing pieces or even reattach my head that keel over from it. Jason would exhaust himself before he killed me. Anyone would.
